Excited to announce the performance Deva Schubert – "Glitch Choir – Vocal Variations" at Schinkel Pavillon 26/27/28 February 2026. @devaschubert More information and ticket link via our website /de/exhibition/deva-schubert-glitch-choir A “glitch” describes a disturbance in the transmission of digital information, such as a distorted image or a stuttering video. It creates a rupture in the perception of reality. Can grief also be understood as a glitch in that sense? The performance Glitch Choir translates the moment of digital disturbance into the analog space through voice and body in order to recompose a lament. Historically, public mourning practices were long carried out by so-called “Klageweiber.” These women were commissioned to give emotional expression to the grief of others for the deceased. At the same time, the act of lamentation became a vehicle through which their voices could be heard, that otherwise had little presence in the public sphere. For the Schinkel Pavilion, Deva Schubert develops vocal variations of the performance adapted to the 360-degree space with a new choir, based solely on live voices. I am over the moon(s) that, after two years at the Kunstverein and one year of programming, we are finally able to officially launch the new website of the Kunstverein (für Mecklenburg und Vorpommern) in Schwerin. After spending so much time (re)setting up institutional infrastructures – literally turning everything upside down – writing almost 100 grant applications, assembling an amazing team, conceptualizing a new institutional identity, and working with so many incredible artists under quite challenging circumstances, this project has been truly heartfelt and represents significant achievements. It was an absolute pleasure and dream to work (and laugh) with @laurensmariabauer and #tilmanjunghans on (and about) this intricate network of a website – interconnecting everything! It is full of so many wonderful micro-typography moments that make my (old) graphic designer heart jump! Thank you Laurens and Tilman for your patience (and apologies for my very “Nordic” style of Google Docs communication). Here it is, now with a new domain: ! #institutionalmaze #exhibitionaryarchitecture

I’m happy to share what’s ahead in 2026 at @salzburgerkunstverein where I start my third programme year under the long thought framework “CAPTCHA Realism” The programme looks at perception and recognition in a moment when being human is no longer a given but something that must be measured, verified, and repeatedly confirmed, when reality rubs against the limits of algorithmic capture. At the same time, it holds on to what escapes full calculation, to what refuses smooth legibility, to the possibility that something human still insists on being seen. If you are interested please read the full text on the website of Salzburger Kunstverein: https://salzburger-kunstverein.at/captcharealism_en Grateful, excited, and hopeful to be working with Kateryna Lysovenko, Linda Lach, Magdalena Berger, Agnes Scherer, freakygreenfish, Deva Schubert, Ryan Gander, Hac Vinent, Gernot Wieland, Filipka Rutkowska, Harun Morrison, Urok Shirhan, Peter Schreiner, and Aline Bouvy as well as Denis Maksimov co-curator of the Distribution of Luck, with whom we will be teaching a class on lecture performance at the SA, and Attilia Fattori Franchini, guest curator of the 2026 members exhibition. 2026 starts here. Please see all squares containing the future, while we’re excited to announce the year ahead at Salzburger Kunstverein under the thematic framework: “ᑕᗩᑭTᑕᕼᗩ ᖇEᗩᒪIᔕᗰ” CAPTCHA REALISM focuses on the gap between lived reality and its authentication. The programme investigates the politics of perception and the synthetic constitution of identity in a moment when being human is no longer an ontological given but a bureaucratic achievement. In a machine-mediated world, where realism mutates into absurdity. CAPTCHA Realism focuses on thresholds of recognition — algorithmic, political, aesthetic — and on the growing gap between lived reality and its verification. Featuring performances and exhibitions by: Kateryna Lysovenko (Mar 7 – Nov 29) supported by @erstefoundation @lysovenko_kateryna Linda Lach (Mar 7 – May 10) @lindallach Magdalena Berger (Mar 7 – May 10) @magdalenaberger__ Agnes Scherer (May 23 – Jul 12) @agnesscherer freakygreenfish (May 23 – Jul 12) @freakygreenfish Deva Schubert (Jun 10 & Jun 12) @devaschubert co-produced with @szene_salzburg Ryan Gander (Jul 25 – Sep 20) @ryanjgander Hac Vinent (Jul 25 – Sep 20) @hacvinent Lecture-performance series The Distribution of Luck — Gernot Wieland, Filipka Rutkowska, Harun Morrison, Urok Shirhan (Aug 5 & Aug 12), co-curated with Denis Maksimov @denis.a.maksimov and co-produced with @summeracademy.at @gernot.wieland @filipkarutkowska @urok.shirhan #harunmorrison Members Exhibition HER, curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini (Oct 3 – Nov 22) @attiliaff @peter_____sch Art Development Award 🥇 Aline Bouvy (Dec 12, 2026 – Feb 16, 2027) in collaboration with @casinoluxembourg @stilb.s @alinebouvy Read the curatorial text via link in bio 🔗 The program is conceptualized and curated (unless mentioned otherwise) by Salzburger Kunstverein’s very own Mirela Baciak @mire_la_ Graphic design: Karolina Pietrzyk #2026

📽️ @carolina.lecoq – In "missed tones, missed meaning, missed moments", Deva Schubert initiates a field of vocal-choreographic research, exploring how a solo practice can hold multiplicity and how a single voice can become many through rhythm, breath and resonance. Inspired by shifting perception, present in the writing of Clarice Lispector and her logic of the dissolution of the self, the work moves through the unstable space between sound and meaning, between what is said and what escapes articulation. Our Annual Review 2025 We look back on a wonderfully diverse, yet challenging year. Like many, we felt the impact of cuts in the cultural sector. Under our annual theme “Handle (with) Care”, four exhibitions explored the ambiguities and often overlooked aspects of care. The spring exhibition "If my neighbour is okay, I’m okay" reflected on the Bärenzwinger’s harsh architecture, while the summer exhibition "This, too, is a way of keeping each other close" explored mourning and remembrance as forms of care, especially for marginalized groups. In autumn, "Politics of Being Heard" tackled inclusion, accessibility, and institutional responsibility—another challenge in this historic, barrier-filled building. The year concludes with "Relations in Place" (on view until 25/1/26), which examines how spaces embody the social, political, and affective forces that structure our ways of living together. Two highlights of the year were the Bärenzwinger’s debut as a stage during Fête de la Musique and the launch of the new art education format Sunday Art Makers (SAM), which will continue next April. A huge thank you to all artists, partners, team members, and visitors who made 2025 so vibrant. We can’t wait to welcome you in 2026. First up is "Louder, Taller, Uglier, Weirder – Learning from Weeds / Von Unkraut lernen", a curatorial project by @anais_senli @lopecado @sf__pan & @sylv_inski in collaboration with galleries across Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Mitte, and Neukölln. The current exhibition runs until 11/1/26 at @kunstraumkreuzberg What was your favorite moment at the Bärenzwinger in 2025?
