What remains of an image when its original purpose was to instruct firefighters? 👩‍🚒 In Latent Lessons (2026), @peter_____sch reworks historical photographs from a fire department journal (1930–1980). Once used for training, these images return as fragmented, repeating motifs. Through enlargement and printing on washi paper and transparent film, their clarity dissolves—figures and objects break down into dots and stains. The closer you look, the more they disappear. ➡️ Now on view: the group exhibition “Some Secrets on Photography” curated by @ruth_horak , that deals with the suspicion, that not all the secrets surrounding photography have yet been revealed. 📸 Six artists pick up the trail of such potential secrets: Pascal Petignat (@pascal.petignat ) and Martin Scholz search for chemical stains in the house of the inventor of photography, Nicéphore Niépce, Peter Schreiner (@peter_____sch ) elicits hidden details from a sober Instructional Photography, Gregor Schmoll reveals the studio as an empty container filled with works, Isabelle le Minh (@isabelleleminh ) stages overlooked details of the history of photography and apparatus, and Sebastian Riemer (@sebastianriemer ) finally exposes the end of analog photography in discarded materials. They all tell stories about photography and shed light on the unknown. The works on display are not always photographs themselves, but in an intelligent, beautiful, and humorous way, they are works about a medium whose 200th birthday we are celebrating.
