It was such a pleasure to direct this series of films of the master, @yoyoma on the joy and nuance of the Bach cello suites earlier this year at Tanglewood. So many thanks to the amazing team that made it happen over those four days… and to the incredible cellists that played alongside him.

The master, Ryuichi Sakamoto, plays the Glass House with mallets through Yayoi Kusama's transformation of the Philip Johnson Glass House.
Our film “Glass” and the live recording eventually became Ryuichi and Carsten’s album by the same name… a gorgeous testament to his improvisational prowess and presense… half a foot of rain pummeled the building suddenly as he and @alvanoto performed, shifting the friction of the mallets and giving the entire recording a persistent and warm white noise that remains in the published record.
A collection of work from the last ten years… I’ll be hitting the road this fall to parts unknown, so get in touch if you’d like to work together somewhere in this wide world…
