The city of Newburgh comes to life during @newburghopenstudios and itâs always great to re-connect with like-minded folks in our community especially after quarantine.
Join us this Saturday during the 10th annual @newburghopenstudios for the first cinemabox pop-up featuring 'Unmasking the Truth' by @newburghcommunityphotoproject and @insideoutproject at 102 S William Street! The unveiling ceremony will be from 5-7pm, followed by a projection screening after sundown. đ Video and audio composed by @gorskynewyork đ„
âUnmasking the Truth' is a public art action in response to COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter, both of which disproportionately affect ethnically diverse communities such as Newburgh. NCPP is a grassroots, community-based initiative teaching photography and community activism to local youth to achieve a greater understanding of their community through creativity.
Thank you to our sponsors - This pop-up is made possible with funds from the Orange County Arts Councilâs Community Arts Grants program @orangecountyartscouncil . Additionally, the Cinemabox's projection system is powered through the generous support of @epsonamerica . A special thank you to @inourbackyards and @artplaceamerica for the opportunity to raise matched funds through the ioby Artists Lead program!

Public art is valuable not only for its aesthetic improvement to a community, but also for the cultural impact it has. It has the power to strengthen and unite community members by giving them a voice to advocate for positive change in their community.
The photographs of residents wearing COVID SAFE, #BLM and I CANâT BREATHE will be wheat-pasted onto Newburgh buildings as a public art action in response to COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter, both of which disproportionately affect ethnically diverse communities such as Newburgh. At NCPP, we seek to explore the relationship of both issues and achieve this by engaging with our community. NCPP is proud to be collaborating with @insideoutproject , JRâs global art project, and @commonprojectsnewburgh as well as withlocal organizations: The Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh NY, @edisonprojects , @newburghcommunitylandbank , @newburgh.wireworks , @thornwillow , and @cityofnewburghnygov . Follow us here and on Facebook @newburghcommunityphotoproject to stay up to date with this summerâs workshops and public art action.
