Newburgh Open Studios
Sept 27 & 28, 2025
An inexplicable and mysterious transmutation occurs when I sew my fabric sculptures. I use hand-cut photo collages as patterns and guides, and the alchemy manifests in exact copies or mistranslations that allow the work to grow and feel alive. The colorful, abstract compositions reveal forms that feel familiar but also strange. Abstraction is a potent tool of the unfamiliar, and the breaking down of images separates meanings and associations. You might see a tongue brush up against a ruffled edge resembling a flower or a series of blue balls cascading in an arc towards a tufted maroon chair cushion. This puzzle is a pleasure to contemplate, offering no answers, only pieces next to parts that attempt to be whole.
