I’m pretty stoked to have had the chance to work with @safeharborsofthehudson on their annual 5k shirt design. The Safe Harbors folks visited me during last year’s @newburghopenstudios and saw potential in my special kind of monster poster mayhem. They wanted something fun, colorful that celebrates Newburgh and I was thrilled to take on the challenge.

Raised on a steady diet of Tom & Jerry, Star Wars, Freddy Kruger and Marvel Comics since the late 1970’s, Steve Chanks has a drawing style that’s been described as Disney meets Mad Magazine.
When Steve was asked to create the cover art for "Bouncing Back", he had a refreshingly thoughtful approach:
"For the artwork, I keep coming back to this idea I got when I first saw the collage and read the lyrics.
A young girl, kinda tomboy-like but also with a ragged tutu and dirty rain boots chasing after a butterfly, has jumped and taken flight.
I like the connection to “dreams and reality” and the butterfly’s obvious tie to transformation, but I’m wondering if there is something that could be left behind on the ground to personalize or reinforce the growth. Something that was holding her back like something that symbolizes the self doubt."
