Relic of Phantasms (2025) beeswax, gel wax, soy wax, stainless steel, aluminum, ABS, PLA, acrylic paint, cotton thread . . . This piece is about burning a phantasm before it comes true, as an offering to endless desire. “For fantasies to keep existing, desire has to stay unfulfilled.” I might have manifested it too much that the work almost refused to be completed. Part of it collapsed the night before the show. I was close to accepting it as broken, but somehow I managed to sew it back together. If growing up is like a cicada shedding its shell, I think the dresses I wore as a child might be the husks that I’ve outgrown… the delicate proofs of how tiny and unguarded I once was. In Molting 01 (2025), these garments are deconstructed, crystallized, and rusted, yet within their decay, they pulse with the quiet energy of rebirth, breathing again in the shimmer of bubbles. . . . Obscure when dry, revealed when it rains. A first approach to a series that I’ve been thinking about for a while - glass lanterns that preserve my personal memories. They respond to weather, to moisture, to the unconscious logic of when things choose to appear. 2025 was a good year 🩶

In p1 Austin was holding a beautiful tree branch that they discovered, while I was holding the bone I created for the installation. As I worked on the transparent wings, I kept thinking about cranes - birds believed to move freely between dreams and reality. Inspired by this, the bone was sculpted based on a crane’s synsacrum. (The antique tent hook at the top of the installation also carries the image of cranes.) . . .
