I'm in the process of bringing the different parts of my digital identity together so I'm deleting my separate art account. 🎨 Truth be told I'm nervy about stepping out like this, a standard blend of feeling not good enough/ perfectionism so I'm gonna dance with this demon this weekend and get it over with :')

Zine commissioned by @vividprojectsuk and co-created by fellow artists on the Birmingham Media Archive Project as an entry point to accessing the archive. You can pick up a copy of the publication and catch the screenings produced from 80s footage of the city , 4pm on Thursday, 14th May @brigcafe as part of @flatpackfestival You can also see the films and installation this summer @birmingham_mag Abit about the project - Our cohort was invited to open up the archive of grassroots screen heritage of the city. We upskilled in media preservation skills and produced a programme of workshops, exhibitions and screenings. It's been eye opening, learning about the film and video landscape in the 80s, Learning how to digitize Nan's home videos with @hellocatfood How to screen through outdated tech How to handle film projectors with @michael.lightborne Listening to electricity, seismic waves from the earth and the pulse of plants with @garyroystewart Having critical conversations around distribution with @radicalexhibition And it's been especially fun to hear everyone's insights of what we've been watching, to see other's interpretations I've learnt more about our home city, and what's possible here, and what we're building on. More to come 🌞 Any questions, feel free to DM me ^^ Link to (free) tickets in bio x

Film Pardna hosts peer to peer skills exchange classes and in March, we practised Improvisation with @aleeminati 🎭 This is the kind of skill that comes in handy infront of, behind and beyond the camera. We got into conversations about what's lurking in the subconscious, giving folks grace to self correct, racial sterotyping, the realities of code-switching through White spaces, and discussions on types of Acting. We did body/voice warm ups, practised flowing with changes and accents whilst reading from the beautifully illustrated "Monkey + the White Bone Dragon", and got into role play to a set scenario :D Thank you Juice for creating a safe place to build confidence in this vital life skill 🙏🏽💕 And for crew members that joined us in the evening 🫶🏽 To hear about upcoming Film Pardna events, subscribe to our (new✨) Substack (link in bio ⏫) or send a DM x

Our next Film Pardna event at Flatpack Film Festival this year will be a curated evening of Capoeira demonstration and films made in and about spaces in Birmingham, from our crew and the Birmingham Film & Video Workshop in the 80s. It was very exciting to discover the existance of the Cultural Centre in Handsworth that is featured in the film we're screening: African Oasis (1982). I'm curious, where do you see the legacy of this work in the city today? 🔥 From us, we're thinking of organisations like @hoodfutures.studio + Abuelos, @blkcurrent_ , @afroflux_uk and many other individual practitioners. Tag whoever you think will get energy from these spaces 🫶🏽✨ A huge thank you to @juwairiyyah_wali We hope to see you there, tickets are in the link in bio! 🙌🏽 * * * Photo credits: @poguscaesar and TURC / Birmimgham Media Archive Project 🙏🏽

Live drawings inspired by the Black British Folk Fest this weekend 🌞 In a time with lots of english flags on my street making spaces unsafe, it feels like folk culture can refocus our attention on alternative national symbols and myths to create a more rooted understanding of who we are as a nation. Thank you🙏🏽 @angelcakepie2 @the_efdss for rekindling my curiosity in folk music. Live drawings of 1. @bookofvoices 2. @mariebashiru 3. @germa_music 4. @angelcakepie2 5. @borderwidowofficial 6. @cohenbraithwaite Also inspired by my artist peers sharing their #inktober2025 doodles 👏🏽

The @globalsumudflotilla made me think of this line from the Maya Angelou poem 'And Still I Rise', edited slightly to reflect all the people around the world wide awake, bearing witness, in solidarity.

We are seeing some incredible work coming through from our #mothership residency artists. @charlottewithink has been inking the blues party part of her comic which is about creating a space for community in the middle of a hostile environment. Meanwhile @maisieviolet_rees is utilising materials she gathered and found in the last 15 years. Reappropriating the materials and turning them into small collages. This is a way for her to practice and play around with composition and shapes. @sylwia_ciszewska_peciak has taken pictures of herself and her daughter for the past two years, trying to show the transformative power of motherhood and her journey. She is weaving two pictures of herself to explain her journey as a mother. @natalijamasone is mixing music she composed and recorded while pregnant that she will perform as part of her installation piece that she’s working on during the residency. @isabella.dogliani is challenging stereotypes of femininity, targeting wet t-shirt competitions and mixing them with poems around motherhood. And the kids are very busy creating too! The Mothership project is co-funded by @westmids_ca @bhamcitycouncil @aceagrams and @weareinnovateuk

My dad, learning how to build a clay wall at The Polytunnel, part of the Neighbourhood Public Square at South Loop Park, Ladywood.  Have you visited the site yet? Tuesday 29th October through to Saturday 2nd November will be an excellent week to drop-by, whenever you can - to experience and learn about what's been going on for the final time this year. It's a real joy to be in the Polytunnel, to see the clay wall that many hands have built out of timber, straw and clay, demonstrating how we can use locally sourced sustainable materials to build.   To see the rain capture system, solar panels and planters filled with medicinal herbs and food, demonstrating how we organise around building, caring for, and maintaining life-supporting systems as neighbours.  I missed so much of the building of the polytunnel while I was on maternity leave, but it's been a joy to come back to work and sit at the table, learning how to notice, and care for, the neighbourhood ecology, like soil, water and air. I've had fun documenting what we learn as drawings, to be published as a zine (soon come!) There will be more days to experience the construction of the Public Square site as a classroom next year, but during Autumn Half Term week from Tuesday 29th Oct - Saturday 2nd Nov will be the last time in 2024. Highly recommend you drop by for food for your heart, body, and soul ^^ * * * Events are hosted with @civic_square , links in bio  Photos from @thombartley
