Introducing the next set of the performers at next week's Black British Folk Takeover: a brand new festival-style all day event with music, conversation and participation.
First up is
@bookofvoices ; singer, songwriter and composer of British-Burundian heritage, Muco’s music is inspired by a love of language and storytelling, with influences from Old, Middle, and Modern English, as well as French, Swahili, and Kirundi.
@borderwidowofficial are
@chardinetaylorstone (Big Joanie) and
@hatty.carman (Thigh High). Their music is an immersive experience characterised by haunting darkwave pop melodies and atmospheric soundscapes.
@mariebashiru ’s music resembles a melting pot of folk, soul and indie rock, and points to a new and unique sound that heralds a new generation of singer-songwriters in British music.
@calliope.theband are an experimental, multi-instrumental folk duo.
@lemonfemon and
@island_____girl take inspiration from folk traditions of the black diasporic transatlantic world, blending trad tunes, ancestral musical traditions and cosmic modernity.
A commanding singer and player of the Anglo concertina and melodeon,
@cohenbraithwaite plays traditional songs and tunes along with some self-penned material and some surprises along the way.
