Hey all BLK:CURRENT is back on the 12th of December with R.I.S.E (Rich In Energy & Spirit) our first Poetry Showcase and Open Mic afternoon.
Doors will open from 13.20pm for a prompt 14.00pm start!

Thank you to all who attended our first poetry workshop – and thank you to everyone sharing the post!
For this week’s session, we briefly explored why we write. Is it a function of self expression? Is it an act of communication? What do we want to write? We used prompts and shared amongst ourselves the different themes and thoughts that emerged.
One prompt was
‘Describe your identity without naming labels. Let the voice tell the story.
Who are you without saying your name, race, gender, age, or job?’ A prompt that required introspection and honesty.
Our first session on Thursday was insightful, inspiring, and we look forward to next week (23rd October). Spaces are still available – everyone’s welcome to write so whether:

-A seasoned performance poet or
-Or a patron of the page

Big ups to all those who attended our Launch Event a few weeks ago 🙌
Massive thanks to @beneculture for hosting us too! We showcased visual art and photography from some of our very own members, as well as discussing the current issues faced by Global Majority Heritage artists in the West Midlands.
It was so enriching to come together, share and discuss, shaping the way in which BLK: Current can be of use to the community.
This is just the beginning for us. We are excited to grow as a collective and nurture our fellow artists.

"Welcome to the West Midlands" is our launch event. It will be a gathering open to any creatives from global majority backgrounds to come and vibe,
