💫 Victoria Wood appreciation post 💫
First weekend of Flatpack complete - and what a weekend it was. The highlights are many, but we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who helped make our Victoria Wood programme happen.
Victoria Wood was one of the UK’s finest and most influential comedians and the lovely feedback we’ve had from lifelong fans following the weekend’s event is testament to the impact she had.
Huge thanks to our bus driver Ashley, Jasper Rees, Jane Wymark, @racheltheginge , Janice Connolly (aka Barbara Nice) and our programme partners @nxwestmidlands and Calthorpe Estates (@edgbastonvillage ).
And big thanks to everyone who came along.
Plenty of Flatpack still to go - get involved 🎟

A special night for us… Satpal Ram finally had his homecoming with our Birmingham Premiere at the wonderful @flatpackfestival in partnership with the @guardian and supported by @thedocsociety . This year marks the 40th anniversary since Satpal was attacked and we were honoured to bring the story back where it all began, especially in front of the grassroots activists who supported him from his conviction to his release.
We had an emotional response to the film, with many tears in the crowd alongside a very lively Q&A. It was amazing to hear from so many different people.
Shoutout to @juwairiyyah_wali for hosting a very grounded and thought provoking Q&A, alongside helping bring this film to @flatpackfestival 🙏🏽.
Thank you to @helenmarcia and Steve Chandra from @asian_dub_foundation for being on the panel and supporting Satpal for all those years ✨
Supported by @thedocsociety made possible through @bfinetwork awarding #NationalLottery funding

Silent cinema at Flatpack 2026 📽️🎶
Comedy meets cinematic innovation in under the radar gem My Grandmother.
Following the story of a lazy bureaucrat who, after getting the boot, goes on a desperate hunt for a grandmother - a well-placed benefactor who can slide him back into the system. With Harold Lloyd-esque flourishes, the film is a playground of experimentation, with stop-motion, hand-drawn animation, and puppetry - a dizzying, lo-fi masterclass in visual anarchy.
With a brand new live score from the formidable duo of Stephen Horne and Meg Morley, this is a must see for silent film fans.
Screening indoors in the Terrace Suite at @bhambotanicalgardens
