Chaand (not) Raat is here!!! Join us for a small gathering to celebrate pre-Eid festivities. 🎉 Chaand Raat, that translates to Night of the moon, marks the night before Eid in South Asian culture. Upon the sighting of the moon, this night is spent celebrating and preparing for the arrival of Eid. 🌙✨ For our next event, we’ll be bringing to you the festive spirit of Chaand Raat through a creative workshop, mehndi artists doing henna on hands and a showcase of artwork created by Muslim women based on what Eid means to them. 🤚 🖼️ 📍 @brigcafe Brig Cafe, 54-57 Allison street, Birmingham, B5 5TH (2 min walk from Moor Street 🚂) The cafe will be serving soft drinks! 🥤 ⏱️ The event starts at 1pm and finishes at 4:30pm 🕯️ Candle decorating workshop - £8.00 per ticket. Cultural Safety in Aotearoa New Zealand “Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi” “With your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive.” Date & Time: Thursday 11 June, 3:00pm–5:00pm Venue: BRIG Café Speakers * Dr Tania Fleming * Discussant: Elsie Gayle About the Lecture This public lecture introduces Cultural Safety as it has developed in Aotearoa New Zealand — an approach grounded in questions of power, responsibility, and collective accountability. Rather than focusing on learning about “other cultures,” Cultural Safety invites critical self-reflection and challenges racism and inequality in everyday practice, institutions, and public life. Developed through the leadership of Dr Irihapeti Ramsden, Cultural Safety and Kawa Whakaruruhau emerged in response to racism, inequity, and the ongoing impacts of colonisation. While rooted in healthcare, the framework has since expanded into education, research, social services, business, and community settings.  Cultural Safety is for everyone.
