After years of runaway production, and waiting for politicians to act, a group of Hollywood workers decided to take matters into their own hands. They became Stay in LA, a grassroots campaign that says when it comes to film and television production, “There’s no place like home.” Original reporting KCRW’s @mbjamerson Photos by KCRW’s @romalc.pcd -reposted from @kcrw *** Endless thanks to @mbjamerson and @kcrw for highlighting our efforts to get friends, families, neighbors, coworkers, small businesses, and communities back to work. 💙

When a production leaves, it's not just the crew that loses. Behind every film is an ecosystem: equipment houses, post facilities, fabrication shops, caterers, lumber yards, transportation providers, craft services. All of these are small businesses that depend on filming activity. Motion 6 explores incentives for the local production supply chain with - utility credits - Rebates - operational support tied to verified production activity It keeps our vendor base strong and rooted in LA. Over 90% of film spending stays within California's economy. Protecting vendors protects production. Thank you @cd2losangeles @keephollywoodhome and @adrin.nazarian for introducing this motion. Next step: Economic Development & Jobs Committee hearing. Stay tuned. #KeepHollywoodHome #LAfilming #VendorSupport #LosAngeles CD2 SupportSmallBusinesses Production

This is how we keep the entire region competitive. 🎬 Motion 8 of 9. Explained by @calethomasmakeup Film production doesn't stop at city limits. Our biggest advantage is our region—but right now, every city has different rules. This creates a confusing, expensive patchwork that pushes productions out. Motion 8 fixes that. It directs the city to negotiate regional agreements (MOUs) with our neighbors within 180 days. The goal is to align on: ✅ Permitting rules so requirements don't change at every border ✅ Use of public facilities like parks and parking lots ✅ Support for local film vendors and small businesses ✅ Workforce training programs ✅ Soundstage expansion corridors This means less red tape for productions that film across multiple cities, more consistent work for our crews, and a united front to keep the entire LA region as the capital of filmmaking. Nine motions from @adrin.nazarian @CD2losangeles .  One mission. Follow @stayinla2025 to track our progress and join us at City Hall. There's no place like home.  #StayInLA #FilmLA #RegionalFilm #FilmPermits #LACityCouncil @deadline @variety @socalnewsgroup @LABusinessjournal   @LATimes @LaOpinionLA @laist @kcrw @IATSElocal706 @lacitydpw @mayorofla @crewstoriesig @cd5losangeles @cd4losangeles

This is about making sure the rules actually work for you. Motion Explained by @James Babbin. Remember Mayor Bass’s Executive Directive 11 to cut film permit red tape? This motion, Motion 5 of 9, makes sure every city department is following through. It requires every department involved in filming—LAPD, LAFD, Transportation, Parks, and more—to report back in 45 days on exactly how they’ve implemented ED11. No more guesswork. We’ll get clear updates on: ✅ New internal guidelines ✅ Changed workflows ✅ Performance metrics for turnaround times ✅ Any remaining bottlenecks The goal is transparency and accountability. This motion forces the city to track its own progress, identify what’s working, and fix what’s not. It’s the checkup that ensures our reforms are real. Nine motions. One mission. Follow @stayinla2025 for more and to find out when we need you at City Hall. LA City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian @CD2losangeles has just introduced nine landmark motions designed to fundamentally lower the cost and complexity of filming in Los Angeles. #2 of 9. This is @calethomasmakeup explaining how CHEAP it will be for production to park in Los Angeles, removing that extra cost. This will open up a vast network of city-owned properties for production use for just $1. This includes access to: 📍 City Parks 📍 Metered Parking Lots 📍 Civic Buildings 📍 DWP Facilities 📍 Public Libraries …and other underutilized spaces. The goal? To provide affordable staging areas, crew parking, base camps, and logistics support for productions of all sizes, without requiring exclusive use or extra city staffing, and without obstructing the public. Bottom line: This is a direct move to make Los Angeles not just the most iconic place to film, but the easiest and most affordable. What’s next? We need to show up together at City Hall to ensure these motions pass! Follow @stayinla for a breakdown of each motion and to get the date for when we rally at City Hall in early 2026. When the wildfires hit, Alejandro’s home was in danger, and the crew from Beef who had been filming there stepped in to help, like so many Angelenos do in a crisis. Not every home could be saved. Our community carries so much loss, and we hold all of those stories with us. This is just one moment of hope from a city that’s been knocked down, and is choosing — every day — to rebuild together. LA’s production workers are our neighbors. They show up for each other. They protect each other. They fight for each other. As we rebuild, let’s make sure they can stay and work here. #STAYinLA #TheresNoPlaceLikeHome #LAstrong #CommunityCare This story was made possible by the team behind the camera — the same neighbors and community members we’re proud to stand with. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this story to life, and congratulations to the Beef Season 2 location team on your well-deserved win at The California On Location Awards for Location Team of the Year, Episodic Television 1/2 Hour category. Your work, both on set and in our community, exemplifies what it means to be part of LA. Happy Holidays!
