California gubernatorial candidates faced questions about the economy, healthcare, public education and more during Thursday's CBS News California and San Francisco Examiner debate.
On the debate stage were Democrats Xavier Becerra, Matt Mahan, Katie Porter, Tom Steyer, and Antonio Villaraigosa, and Republicans Chad Bianco and Steve Hilton. With the June primary nearing, moderators pressed candidates to clarify previous statements and expand on how they would make their vision for a better California a reality.
CBS News California Investigates found that some drivers working for food delivery and rideshare applications appeared to be using accounts that did not belong to them, raising concerns about background checks and customer safety. One democratic lawmaker is pushing for stronger protections.
The investigation found that accounts for companies such as Uber, Lyft and DoorDash can be bought or rented online without providing identification.

A fast-growing fire near Lancaster in the Antelope Valley prompted shelter-in-place orders and evacuation warnings Saturday afternoon.
The Corral Fire had grown to about 120 acres by early afternoon, according to Cal Fire. Officials have not yet said whether any structures are threatened or if there are any injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
