On Thursday, my pilot program was approved to provide a 20% parking discount for film productions at more than 100 City-owned parking lots.                    For too long, the price to park equipment, starwagons and trailers was too expensive, keeping productions and good-paying jobs out of Los Angeles – we’re changing that. With an uptick in film productions in Los Angeles, we’re working with industry leaders to cut red tape and slash fees locally while pushing Sacramento to end the cap on the tax credit. Our work will never stop to protect the industry that put Los Angeles on the map.

For too long, broken street lights and copper wire theft have left thousands of neighborhoods across Los Angeles in the dark. We’re changing that. Through my new Street Lights Initiative, we’re repairing and replacing up to 60,000 street lights citywide with solar-powered technology that is more reliable, more resilient, and less vulnerable to theft.

My Street Lights Initiative, which will repair and replace up to 60,000 street lights across Los Angeles, is the largest investment in street lighting infrastructure in the city’s history. By using solar-powered technology, we’re building a system that is more reliable, less vulnerable to copper wire theft, more resilient during outages, and better for our environment.

Reducing violence takes more than enforcement alone. That’s why I created L.A.’s first Office of Community Safety — investing in prevention, intervention, and community-based responses that help keep Angelenos safe.

Public safety is about more than responding to crime after it happens. Our focus also needs to include preventing violence, building trust, and making communities feel safe and supported. Since I became Mayor, violent crime, property crime, and homicides have all declined across Los Angeles. But statistics alone are not enough — we know there is still more work ahead. That’s why our approach combines investments in officers and enforcement with prevention, intervention, outreach, and community-based solutions that address the root causes of violence. I created L.A.’s first Office of Community Safety to help lead that effort and strengthen long-term prevention and neighborhood safety strategies. I want to thank the men and women of the LAPD for their continued work protecting communities across Los Angeles.

Through Inside Safe, we have resolved more than 125 encampments by bringing people inside and connecting them to housing, services, and support. Our work focuses on treating unhoused Angelenos with dignity while also improving the health and safety of our communities. Residents should be able to walk down the sidewalk safely, and small businesses should be able to welcome customers without large encampments blocking access or creating unsafe conditions. The work continues.

My career began in the emergency room, where I cared for patients coming off the streets and saw firsthand the devastating toll of homelessness. I watched entirely treatable illnesses become fatal simply because people didn’t have access to care or a safe place to recover. These tiny homes will provide safe, stable interim housing for more than 50 unhoused Angelenos.

Today, our Inside Safe team is in Boyle Heights working alongside City departments and Caltrans to bring people inside. Before an Inside Safe operation begins, our teams rally together to do this life-saving work.  This work takes coordination, urgency, and compassion. So much is possible when we come together with the shared goal of helping people move toward stability.

Returning to the State Capitol is always meaningful to me. Before serving as Mayor, I had the honor of serving as Speaker of the California State Assembly as the first Black woman to hold that role. The work continues.

As your Mayor, it is my role to help secure resources for our City.  Today I traveled to Sacramento to advocate for critical funding and support for housing, homelessness, wildfire recovery, and continued preparation for the 2028 Games. I met with Governor Gavin Newsom, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, Senate Pro Tem Monique Limón, and other leaders. For so many years, homelessness only went up in Los Angeles, and housing was dramatically underbuilt. Now, we have reversed these longstanding trends, and we are seeking to continue our strong partnership with the state to accelerate our progress.

Thank you to the incredible Southwest flight crew for getting us to Sacramento safely today. ✈️ I’m in Sacramento today advocating for critical funding to help Los Angeles continue reducing homelessness, building more housing, preparing to welcome the world for the 2028 Games, and helping get wildfire survivors the resources they need to rebuild and return home.
