Very proud to share my contemplative short documentary called “PARKED: An Ode to the Green Spaces of NYC”, made in collaboration with @mightypursuit . “I come to the park to silence myself…” While working with Mighty Pursuit, we dreamt up a concept to explore the perceptions that real New Yorkers hold of their parks in one of the busiest and most stimulating cities on the planet. As an avid lover of the parks myself, I was thrilled to explore this concept. I worked with a very small crew, rented an Arriflex from @mononoawarefilm , and set out to Prospect and Central Park. What we found in interviewing New Yorkers felt profound, and quite beautiful. The humble appreciation that New Yorkers expressed towards these spaces moved me and gave me great satisfaction in the days we spent strolling around the parks and finding small moments of beauty to capture. Though I shot this quite some time ago, I find a lot of joy in sharing it now and am left again with the sense that my proudest and most cherished projects have been from the heart, and often with very limited resources and crew. New work for @google and @mediamonks ! I had a really lovely time directing and DPing three global in-store assets showcasing a few unique features for Google's new Pixel Fold. I worked with the Mexico City @film.monks and had a phenomenal experience shooting with THE best CDMX-local crew and talent. One of my absolute favorite on-set and pre-production experiences with absolute class professionals. I felt incredibly equipped and empowered by the crew to execute these highly precise deliverables with ease and efficiency in our one day shoot. Me encanta la gente de CDMX! A collection of some of my favorite frames from my new music video with @needtobreathe for their song "The Cave." I pulled a lot of inspiration from high-contrast theatre lighting looks from films such as Joel Coen's "Tragedy of Macbeth" and Robert Eggers' "The Lighthouse." It was such a thrilling aesthetic for me to explore, and I'm really proud of what we created with some fairly simple lighting set ups and inexpensive practical effects. @jonmarzolla brilliantly lensed this to life!

“The Cave” Official Music Video for @needtobreathe is out now! NEEDTOBREATHE’s music has been a part of my life for decades now, and a number of directors who I greatly admire have made their mark on NTB music videos in the past. It was a real honor to get to collaborate with these guys, who remain to be true artists and rockstars even after being in it for so long. From the very first listen, I LOVED this song. It was so fun and so easy to dream up some really exciting visuals to explore with such a powerful, dissonant, and exciting song. Check out the full video with headphones on to really rock out to it! Very proud to have "Useless Passion" featured on @directorslibrary ! I'm a huge fan of the curation on this particular platform, so it's an especially exciting one to be featured on. The visual language for this film was largely inspired by a few inspirational pieces I had come across on DL (namely "Air" by @dw.findlay and "my twelve addictions" by Attila Damokos), and the site's featured films consistently serve as a massive source of creative influence for me.

Very proud to announce the release of my film "USELESS PASSION" featuring pro cyclist @laurelquinoa and made possible with funding and support from @madewithtrust . After encountering French existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre's provocative line, "Man is a useless passion.", I was inspired to try and work through this question by using an aspiring cyclist as a subject who is grappling with the volitional yet costly price of the pursuit of a passion. I had met Laurel on a group ride, and had always been curious about her journey and her dreams. We began meeting and discussing this theme and how it related to her own life and story, and ultimately, she decided to bravely act for the first and to let herself be the subject of this film. I love finding ways to blend reality and fiction, and living in this middle-ground of stylized doc. I was able to pitch the concept to Trust for funding, and to my happy surprise, we got it! Working alongside DP @thommarch and an NYC crew, I shot this special piece in two days back in early March on 4-perf 35mm film. Proud of the steps this one has been for me, and as always, of the work of the whole crew! I love that film is a team effort. It's been two years since the release of my short film with @jonbatiste , "WE ARE: A Visual Mission Statement." To this day, the opportunity to make this film with such a prolific person like Jon and the creative process it entailed have remained as some of my most treasured and proud moments in my career. In celebration, here's the :30 cutdown from the final segment in the film, EVOLUTION. Here's to the continuous growth and change we all experience.

NEW WORK! Teaser for "We're All Searching for Something", a brand anthem film for @mightypursuit 's site relaunch and premiered this week on @filmsupply . After I left Vevo, I spent a bit of time dreaming with the wonderful people at @mightypursuit , helping them build a vision for what film could look like as a part of their intention for their company. They are a digital agency that exists to help people explore how to find their most meaningful life by offering a deeper look into the way of Jesus. It was a really special chapter that helped me bridge into freelance work and where I am now. Together, we created this anthem film that explores six different peoples’ journey to find fulfillment and contentment in their lives, and the puzzling void that often waits beyond the attainment of a dream. I'm super proud of the blending of verite and scripted performances by these actors and real people, the intentional and effective visual language @skylerisbrown brought to the piece, and the playful and exciting cut @matt_carter and I uncovered together. Proud to announce my films "WE ARE: A Visual Mission Statement from Jon Batiste" and "I CARRY THEM" have been shortlisted for the 1.4 Awards this year. These two projects have continued to be standouts and the incredible work put in by the full teams on both films has proven invaluable. To everyone involved, thank you again and again! I am chomping at the bit for opportunities to make more work like this! Working hard to find the open doors. Fingers crossed for the final results on Wednesday, but either way, a moment worth celebrating with all those involved!
