A look inside 👁️📡 AMA’S SALON 📡👁️
In today’s world, black hair salons function as spaces of personal transformation. But what does the future *actually* hold for our sacred community spaces?
Socially, the salon is a sanctuary, a site of therapy and storytelling in our communities. Economically, black hair salons act as both transformation centers and micro-economies — essential spaces led mostly by black women. Technologically/Politically, digital surveillance and data control (especially our bio-data!) are major points of tension in our collective futures.
Through this project I invite people to question: how does the role of women leaders change given complex future trends? What happens when our most intimate data — even emotional data collected at our safe havens — becomes commodified? And what can we as community leaders, entrepreneurs, and creatives of the global Afro-diaspora do about it?
Come discuss this and more at the upcoming ✨COLLECTIVE FUTURES LAB✨ on 30.12.1025 presented by @woodxwatta & @wild_moon in collaboration with @edanghana & @blackfemarc 🌀 RSVP link in bio!
Big shout to @g.sarkodee@nicole_coffie@judahsmakeover_@smallcrowdd for translating the vision for @amassalon.2056 to another level!!

📡 AMA’S SALON 📡 has opened its doors in Osu ✨
Designed by multidisciplinary designer and concept hair artist Asia Clarke, AMA’S SALON is a speculative site of community data sharing and personal transformation. Part of ‘Women’s Ways of Knowing the City’ art exhibition presented by @edanghana@blackfemarc this experiential installation invites you into a speculative hair salon where care, creativity, and urban knowledge intertwine.
‘You Are Invited’ is a collaborative public space co-designed and co-curated by Black Females in Architecture @blackfemarc and Edan Ghana @edanghana guiding visitors through a series of interconnected urban rooms that reimagine how women shape and experience the city.
Proud to be part of an amazing collective of artists exhibiting in this show, on view now at @edanghana until 8 January 2026.
