Wind Guide October 5–April 6, 2025 Opening Reception: Sunday, Oct 5 2–6pm We met the wind before. It took on human form, walking the streets of Chicago in plain clothes and humble appearance. They were a bit elusive but had a great sense of clarity and direction. They were kind and gracious, asking for nothing in return. We have decided to let the wind guide our next exhibition. Using elements of chance and coincidence as curation methods we have invited a group of 25 artists to create a series of wind chimes that will be installed on Mayfield’s perimeter. Through this ges-ture, we will amplify the wind’s voice in order to see what it has to say. - V Slovick Andi Crist Edra Soto Ruby Que John Preus bex ya yolk Nick Chiado Ieva Tersigni Sierra Zucker Mikey Mosher Sam Fresquez Pedro Albertini David Sprecher Kazuki Guzmán Jefferson Pinder Douglas Malone Meesh Kislyakov Mauricio López F. Last Chair 2025 Salvaged wind instrument parts, cedar, aluminum For @__bench_press and @jordanknecht duo show “(un)learning center” @comfort_station - I had the most fun at their opening, please go play in this incredibly generous and generative space they’ve crafted, you have till June 1! Honored to be a small part of it amongst other artist-made chimes 🌬️ Thanks to @j.harold.christ for the flute, @goodzachary for the clarinet, and @gerrithatcher for the saxophone mouthpiece (all sweet human beings and extremely talented musicians!!) I played the flute growing up. I wasn’t particular good at it and was last chair flute in the school band. To my right sat the first chair saxophone, a tall girl with short hair. She always wore a shirt and pants for performances, while all the other girls wore dresses. She looked great in a tie. Obviously I never mustered up the courage to befriend her, despite the fact that we sat next to each other for years and shared a hotel room sometimes when the band traveled. I remember watching her sleep once, her eyelashes fluttering ever so slightly. Or the way her fingers moved on the saxophone. The sounds she made. I got better at playing and the conductor wanted to move me up in the section. I said no. I skipped the placement tests. She was a year above me; I quit band soon after she graduated. She was so good she stayed first chair that whole time. And I sat next to her.

My good friend & collaborator @jordanknecht and I would like to invite you to the opening of our exhibition (un)learning Center at @comfort_station this Sunday May 4 from 2-5pm. Enter into our sonic playground, as every work in the show will be interactive & audible 🔊🛝 We also prompted 10 artist friends to build a wind chime using found materials. See & hear them out on the front face of Comfort Station throughout the month of May 🔔💨 Artists include @bit.map , @rubyq.ue , @theandicrist , @mikey.mosher , @n.chiado_ , @kazukiguzman , @sofia.f.d , @piggys_palace , @brickmadeit _ (un)learning Center is an amorphous venn-diagram of two peoples’ practices. Over three years of both direct collaboration and parallel play, Madeleine Aguilar & Jordan Knecht have spilled into each other, intuitively developing a methodology of improvisation, responsiveness and iterative creation. The result is a collection of structures and published works which nurture (un)learning, exploration, and collaboration. The exhibition contains modular, interactive sound making structures built individually + collaboratively by the artists, serving as documents of mutual iteration. These structures are designed to nullify expertise, prioritizing collective exploration, empathetic interaction and ecstatic improvisation. The structures invite multiple players at once, cultivating a sonic-social awareness in relation to one another and all who are sharing the space. For this exhibition, Aguilar and Knecht have curated a series of performances, inviting a variety of soundmakers to engage with these structures, pushing performers into new territory though creative constraints and expanding the sonic vocabulary of the objects, whose uses + functions are invented (discovered) anew with each use. As the structures are activated throughout the duration of the exhibition, distinction between visitor/creator/collaborator/artist quickly becomes unclear (and unnecessary). Books and garments are available to browse and purchase in a non-centralized store in which purchases are made based on trust. The two artists have collaborated on new garments and books specifically for this exhibition.

I'm thrilled to share my latest work, 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙣, a series of symbolic and graphic paper cuts displayed on the balcony windows, now on view at @compoundyellow until July. This piece is part of the group exhibition 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼. Designed to welcome and warm up visitors before entering the house, the paper cuts draw attention to and enliven the three sides of the house and the entire yard. I'm fascinated by the idea of a pacing man looping around the window, mirroring the viewers' movement as they loop around the building in the yard. 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼/𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘁 gathers the work of eighteen multigenerational Chicago-based artists whose practices align with those of the organizer, who assembled an exhibition in response to a home in transition. The artists received a written invitation, a tour of the space, and significant freedom to respond to the entirety of Laura Shaeffer’s and Andrew Nord’s Oak Park home with their interventions. Img.7: Me installing the work on the balcony, with Christian and Izzy.
