In honour of Aunty Marge (Lilardia) Tucker
End of last year I received a call from
@grace_dlabik about putting a pitch in for a mural, a piece to reflect on the life and legacy of Aunty Marge Tucker. Knowing a bit about Aunty Marge through reading her book, “If Everyone Cared Enough,” I knew I wanted to take the opportunity to create an artwork to share who she was and what she did with her life. It was really special to connect with Aunty Marge’s granddaughter, Tania Rossi, who shared stories and photographs of Aunty Marge with me that inspired the artwork.
Earlier this year we found out our pitch was voted in by the community and after months of planning, we finally got to slap some paint on the wall a few weeks ago!
The biggest thank you to
@grace_dlabik for bringing me into this opportunity and guiding me through it all. Thanks for holding down the fort in the background, making sure it was all running smoothly and for the coffee scrolls 🤤 Thank you to
@be.onecreative for production management, and Grace for project managing. To my deadly team of assistants,
@kiritawhaiart @em_swami @kee.ahn Thank you so much for all your help with bringing this to life, I couldn’t have done this without your help and appreciate the chats, the river lunch dates, and the laughs to get us through the big days.
This project was commissioned by Victorian State Government and Maribyrnong Council, and I appreciate the local members who came down to chat and look after us during the project.
Check out the behind the scenes of this piece coming together. If you’re in Footscray, head up to Lilardia Park to see this piece in the flesh, or if you’re on the train heading past Footscray, keep your eyes peeled for it.
Hopefully more of this in the future so if you’ve got a wall you need some colour on, let me know 😉
Signing off until next year, with love! 🖤💛❤️
