@monikafabijanska When Dawn Delikat asked me to suggest a work of the next “it” artist for the exhibition accompanying this year’s Feminist Institute Lab
@penandbrushnyc , I immediately thought of Bang Geul Han.
Please, join us for the opening of “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” on Thursday, March 7, 6-8 PM.
In Bamboo Forest, Han’s 2022 generative animation installation, the software created by the artist pulls poetic chants of folk abortion practices and magical rituals collected by her from historical and contemporary sources across the globe and assembles them on a screen from swarms of loose letters.
Occasionally, they form a quote from Rep. Henry J. Hyde, the author of the 1976 Hyde Amendment, which barred federal government from using Medicaid to fund abortions, revealing that the questions of race and class have always intersected with issues surrounding abortion.
