Saturday, May 2, 1–6 PM
with a DJ set by Malu Dan from 6-8pm
PIACE (Progressive Italian American Cultural Exchange) presents its first Festa dei Lavoratori (May Day Festa), a two-day, street fair–style event transforming Stand4 Gallery into a lively gathering of artists, makers, performers, and writers.
Rooted in the history of May Day and its ties to labor movements, migration, and working-class life, the festa reflects the enduring role of Italian and Italian American communities in shaping New York City’s cultural and political landscape. Through contemporary art, performance, and storytelling, PIACE brings forward new interpretations of that history while creating space for connection and exchange.
The program includes artist and maker tables, live performances, talks, poetry, music, and a pop-up bookstore alongside food, drink, and community.

SPECIAL EVENT AT STAND 4!
Dear Laila
By Palestinian Artist Basel Zaraa will be presented by @playcompany in Stand4’s THRESHOLD space from April 11-April 19.
Note: Tickets are available on Stand4’s website. Sign up for a 15 minute personal viewing.
Basel Zaraa is a UK-based artist born in the Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus, where his family lived after being exiled from Palestine in 1948. He is the second generation of his family to be born and grow up as a refugee outside Palestine. Zaraa created this installation in response to his young daughter Laila’s questions about his now-destroyed childhood home. Unable to take her there, he decided he would bring the place to her.
In Dear Laila, Zaraa addresses his daughter, recalling sights and sounds of his childhood home via Walkman audio that audiences listen to over headphones—placing them in the perspective of a child having a parent’s precarious past gently explained to them.
Attendees enter the 15-minute experience alone, sitting face-to-face with a detailed miniature of Zaraa’s former home as they encounter a story of displacement suffused with memories of joy, family, and the beauty of community. The recorded audio in Dear Laila will be available to audience members in English and Arabic.
Two of the venues hosting our presentation of Dear Laila, Stand4 Gallery and Salam Arabic Church, are nestled within Bay Ridge, a South Brooklyn neighborhood alive with Palestinian culture, and we’ll provide community maps at the installation that highlight nearby restaurants, grocers, bakeries and small businesses—all within walking distance—to enrich your experience and help support what makes Brooklyn’s “Little Palestine” so remarkable.
When PlayCo decided to present DEAR LAILA in NYC, Bay Ridge seemed a natural fit. This cozy, South Brooklyn neighborhood is home to NYC’s largest Arab community, as evidenced by the many Arabic storefronts, Yemeni coffee houses, and, of course, rich Palestinian culture and cuisine—a reputation that earned this area its “Little Palestine” nickname.
In sharing this show with Bay Ridge, we want to make sure that we, in turn, share some of Bay Ridge's amazing warmth and hospitality with you all. To that end, we've collaborated with local Palestinian businesses and created a map of nearby restaurants, sweet shots, and coffee houses--all within walking distance.
Grab some fresh falafel and hummus at Al-Aqsa for a waterfront picnic at Shore Road Park, or dine-in with a party at Tanoreen or the newly-opened Soul of Palestine. Wherever home may be to you, it’s impossible not to appreciate the beauty found in Little Palestine’s solidarity.
