20 years of Backcountry Essentials 🎉
It’s hard to believe this little shop has been around for 20 years. Over that time, we’ve helped people gear up for first backpacking trips, fine-tuned kits before big days in the mountains, repaired plenty of well-loved skis, shared in a lot of powder day excitement, and swapped stories from time outside. More than anything, we’ve gotten to know an incredible community of people who love this place as much as we do.

Join us at Backcountry Essentials next Thursday, April 30th from 6-8pm for a free evening with 18 local nonprofits from Bellingham and beyond. Come meet the people doing amazing work in our community, learn what they’re all about, and discover ways to get involved!
We’ll also hear a few short presentations from @ncascades , @legatomaritime , and @recreationnorthwest , sharing more about what they do and why it matters.
We’ll have drinks, snacks, a raffle, and plenty of good conversation. Stop by, hang out, and connect with your community!

Please join the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Carnivore Research Scientist, Brian Kertson, for an evening of all things cougars in the great PNW.
Brian will draw on more than two decades of field experience to share insights on cougar ecology and behavior, practical advice for staying safe while recreating, and a few stories of working up close and personal with Washington’s big cat.
