Here's something most people don't know — thick canvas isn't just durable, it's naturally fire resistant. And there's real science behind it. 🔥
When you have a tightly woven, organic canvas (cotton or linen), a few things work in your favor:
The density of the weave limits airflow — and fire needs oxygen to spread. Thick canvas basically starves it.
Instead of bursting into flame, natural fibers form a char layer when exposed to heat. That layer acts as insulation, protecting whatever is underneath.
Natural fibers also hold ambient moisture way better than synthetics, meaning it takes more energy to even get them started.
And unlike polyester or nylon, canvas doesn't MELT. Synthetic fabrics drip flaming material everywhere, spreading fire fast. Canvas just smolders slowly in place.
This is literally why canvas has been used in military tents, firefighting gear, and heavy-duty tarps for centuries. It's not a coincidence. We like to wear a Throwshirt over our puffers when around a campfire.
Treat it with beeswax or a natural oil finish? You're raising that ignition threshold even further.
It's not fireproof — but in the right conditions, thick organic canvas is about as close as a natural material gets.
Some products improve with reinvention. Others survive because there wasn’t much to fix in the first place. Products still hand cut and sewn in Seattle since 1993.

Honestly for the longest time I didn’t really get the hype around Austin but after the last 2 years of visiting, I get it. Even in such a big city I feel surrounded by strong Hispanic culture and tons of nature. Meagan took me to my FIRST Texas National Park and it was beautiful and surprisingly not busy. I had some family issues the day before my first round and it was really hard to shake off the heart break that day but after some much needed council with friends I felt much better and regained my strength to finish this event STRONG. My main goal this year is to not focus on short-comings and be grateful for what is. I’ve finished every event so far above my little rating and for that I’m STOKED. For the first time in my life I’m celebrating the smallest wins and it feels silly but also really fun for me. I got to hang out with my all time favorite homies this week all at once and I cannot begin to describe how FULL that made my heart. Feeling rich af in life, love and family.

What a trip!
Just returned home from guiding a Brazilian flying tour with Dustin Martin and @aprendavoar …through, and over some of the most spectacular terrain I’ve been lucky enough to fly a paraglider. We had a group of not just competent XC pilots, but also a rad crew of good humans who were up for anything and met every day, every challenge, and every flight with huge smiles and open arms. 7 new sites in our 9 days of flying, around 30 hours in the air, good food, tons of laughs, zero incidents or accidents, and some wild and very memorable adventures!
I’m already looking forward to doing it again next year!! Massive thanks to all involved. That… was one for the books;-)
