Last month, AYO hosted ROOTED, a four-day convening in Austin where organizers across 17 Network organizations came together to sharpen their craft. From campaign planning to grassroots leadership to sustainable power-building, participants left with sharper tools and renewed confidence to bring back home.
Strong movements aren’t built in moments — they’re built intentionally, with time, care, and deep roots. 💜 Same time next year yall? 🤠
Chicago Votes sends a special thank you to @allianceforyouthaction for hosting our staff and partnering organizations at ROOTED: Foundations of Organizing! Through immersive trainings, workshops, and community building, we learned the deeper significance of what it means to be a strategic organizer.

Freddie: “I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn and connect with organizers in the Alliance from across the country. I discovered so much about their experiences and expertise and so many things I can apply to our work at Chicago Votes. The trainings were straightforward and outlined the basics of organizing and how to build power. Grateful for such an enlightening experience!”
Tre: “I loved learning how exploring someone’s self-interest is key for not only building a movement, but building collective power. It also gave me a renewed perspective on teaching people about their power while building the legacy of leadership. Last night we partnered with IBEW Local 360, PHX Starbucks Workers United, IUPAT Local 36, and Poder in Action at our Workers over Billionaires forum. Labor unions, grassroots organizations, and community members came together to strategize about how we build worker power. It’s more important now than ever to connect and build power for workers at a time when billionaires have hoarded obscene wealth at our expense.
We want to thank everyone who joined us last night. Together, we will fight to put workers over billionaires!
