The OUMF team left HQ with the Sebring Sprite and headed to @bicestermotion to spend the day with the Healey Drivers Club. We met members, admired and learned about their cars, shared what OUMF does, exhibited the Sebring Sprite on our stand, and put the race car through its paces around the test track to show what members of the club can achieve. We loved the overhead and helicopter photos from Dakar … a chance to see Purdey and the landscape from a different angle. Our own view of the terrain we are travelling through is limited from the cockpit, so it is lovely to be able to zoom out retrospectively ! A picture paints a thousand words, but doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story. This seemingly serene moment in the dunes tells you nothing about the struggle we had just been through to dig Purdey out of the sand. It doesn’t tell you that it was already nearly 8 hours into our stage even although it was taken at 11.15 in the morning. It doesn’t tell you that the next competitive section we would enter would be the longest regularity section of the rally at 209km. It only gives you a snapshot of our stage 7 at Dakar. But it’s a very pretty one ! Une image vaut mille mots, mais ne raconte pas nécessairement toute l’histoire. Ce moment apparemment serein dans les dunes ne vous dit rien de la lutte que nous venions de traverser pour extraire Purdey du sable. Cela ne vous dit pas qu’il était déjà près de 8 heures dans notre étape même si elle a été prise à 11h15 du matin. Cela ne vous dit pas que la prochaine section compétitive dans laquelle nous entrerions serait la plus longue section de régularité du rallye à 209 km. Cela ne vous donne qu’un aperçu de notre étape 7 à Dakar. Right now we have a lot of things going on in the background that we aren’t quite ready to tell you about yet, but I promise you they are exciting! Back on 31st December our background was the Red Sea, as we got settled into the Dakar bivouac at Yanbu, ready to start our challenge. We learned so much this year, and made many amazing contacts, all of which will put us in good stead for 2028. The clock is already ticking ….. After the rains, even the desert comes alive! We really didn’t expect the new growth of vegetation we saw on some of our Dakar stages. This ‘meadow’ was on Stage 1. At Dakar, always expect the unexpected ! Après les pluies, même le désert s’anime! One of the things that really surprised us was how much vegetation we passed through, on some of the Dakar Stages. Saudi had had significant rainfall before the start of Dakar, and the effects were really showing as the desert sprung back to life. In Europe we’ve had no shortage of water in 2026, and as the temperature finally climbs, we will soon be enjoying the green of spring here too. L’une des choses qui nous a vraiment surpris, c’est la quantité de végétation que nous avons traversée, sur certaines étapes du Dakar. L’Arabie saoudite avait eu des précipitations importantes avant le départ de Dakar, et les effets se manifestaient vraiment lorsque le désert reprenait vie.
