This one has been completely brought up to date and is now OBD compliant, meaning it can be treated much more like the later NNN ECUs.

Repairing TD5 ECUs is pretty much a daily occurrence for us now!
✅ No communication faults

The good thing is not every ECU needs replacing. A lot of them can be repaired tested and brought back to life properly some are harder then others

After being away recovering I’m finally starting to get back into the swing of things!

We had a blast driving with our Land Rover Defender 130 thru the Sahara desert in Morocco 🤩🤩
Enjoying every piece of the tracks, trails and of course the quality of our own build offroad car.
First of all we have a custom made stainless steel straight exhaust, which helps, but for this kind of driving you need real performance so we work with Gareth of @empiretuning to make the perfect improvements on this car, like:
- Custom ECU optimalisation, with maps written after our liking. We have several maps available, so we can adjust to optimal performance on every kind of circumstances. In the desert we drove with about 180hp.
- Enlarged intercooler, custom made for Empire Tuning.
- OEM spec cruise control, which helps a lot on the longer highway tracks.

Is a 8HP conversion even a proper conversion if you don’t run a Defender stick in a Defender! 👀 🤣
For me it has to look right as well as work right this is going to mounted in a similar location to the modern Defender hence the rapid prototyping of mounting plates soon to be chop up redraw and printed again and vein until it’s right!
Modern 8HP gearbox control with a proper Defender feel just makes the whole conversion make more sense. Little details like this are what stop a conversion looking thrown together and make it look like it belongs there from the factory.
Still refining bits, still testing ideas, but this is the sort of stuff that matters.
