The Books of Lilith - @aptstudiosgallery (June 4-14, PV June 5th) The Books of Lilith is an exhibition composed of seven abstract and figurative female painters coming together in an hymn to Lilith, most commonly known as Adam’s ‘first wife’. According to tales emerging from the Talmud (especially the Alphabet of Ben-Shira, a text from the Middle Ages), Lilith was made from an equal cast as Adam, but refused to submit to him. As a result, she was banned from Eden and now exists as a demonic figure, ‘the evil Lilith, who causes the hearts of men to go astray and appears in the dream of the night and in the vision of the day, who burns and casts down with nightmare, attacks and kills children, boys and girls’. Lilith symbolises in Abrahamic religions the disobedient, uncontrollable, and alluring woman. For feminists, she is the matriarch who rebelled against patriarchal authority. Lilith has been represented throughout art history as a symbol of female sexuality (Dante Gabriel Rossetti), a mythological figure part of the wider history of women (Judy Chicago), to cite a few examples. The Books of Lilith is a continuation of this important lineage, bringing contemporary voices in the retelling of Lilith’s story and the carving of her legacy in the wider history of feminism and contemporary painting. Curated by @efratmerin and I ❤️ with an accompanying text! Opening event June 5th ❤️ Hope to see you all!

Join us tomorrow for the opening of 'Mitochronia' Opening: Thurs 7th May 18:00 - 20:00 Exhibition continues from 7th - 17th May 2026 Life was nothing but green slime over a billion years ago, consisting of mats of bacteria. They didn’t do very much but were good at staying alive. Then, after a few million years, one of these decided it would be a good idea to live inside of another. These were called mitochondria. They provided energy to the host and in return were granted protection from the elements and various predators. This Mitochronia exhibition pursues this theme, exploring the properties of these organelles as they evolve though time, their archaean ancestry and the role they have in contemporary therapeutic solutions. Mitochondria thrive on red and infra-red light. These are components inherent in sunlight and, as such, form an important element in metabolic health. It is only recently that this form of light has been recognised for its importance. Get @reshare_app@artistsopenhse LAURENCE NOGA @laurence.noga Laurence Noga works with mixed media, exploring themes of memory and nostalgia through collections of objects, colour and surface. His work often draws on personal artefacts - many found in his father’s garage - transforming everyday, industrial materials into something more poetic and reflective. Influenced by artists such as Kurt Schwitters and Eduardo Paolozzi, as well as Bauhaus ideas around structure and form, his paintings layer fragments of the past with colour and composition shaped by childhood memories - from smoky jazz clubs to time spent in restaurants and workshops. In the run-up to the exhibition, Laurence has been developing new paintings that continue this exploration, building compositions that invite viewers to connect with the emotional resonance of these objects and moments. @aptstudiosgallerartist @davidwebbpaintings is featured in CONTRARIWISE 7 -31 May Private View 7th May "if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic." Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass Contrariwise is the first exhibition of the refreshed studio1.1 in partnership with Sluice. To mark this comina together we're celebrating the communities that support our respective initiatives, presenting an exhibition drawn from Members (studio1.1) and Friends (Sluice), Running artist-led projects has always required a willingness to believe in unlikely things: that spaces will survive, that conversations will continue, that artists with very different approaches but bound by a shared ethos can flourish together. Collaboration itself can feel contrary - improbable, occasionally illogical - vet it persists. This exhibition gathers works that sit beside one another without demanding agreement. Different voices, materials, and intentions coexist here in productive tension. Participating artists: @domingoarjonilla @julie_caves @deepa.chudasama @colecorner @jamesdearlove_art @liz_elton @gobetween_projects @donnellpatrick @ruthphilo @marion_piper @markscottwood @shawn_stipling @sharon.swaine @davidwebbpaintings @mswiftvart
