An exercise in mapping time and motion. 12 months in Brighton is an edition of 20 silkscreen prints that document Patrick’s movements around the central Brighton area over the period of a year. Each image represents a month in the year 2012. The images were developed from photocopied pages from the Brighton A-Z with Patrick recording his daily travels by colouring in the streets / tracks he had journeyed. He developed this as a way to explore his interest in maps by actively engaging with his surroundings and tracing every journey. Working in contrast to the increasing reliance on satellite navigation, he would rather gauge where he is, or is going, rather than being passively led there. Using the iconic Brighton beach green, this work visualises behavioural patterns and is a tool to pinpoint specific memories with certain parts of the city being visited just once when he had family visitors. Can you tell which month that was?

Our much-loved annual event invites visitors to step inside the working studios of the artists, makers, and creative businesses who bring Phoenix Art Space to life.
We are home to 120 professional artists at every stage of their careers, from painters and photographers to filmmakers, ceramicists and those working at the forefront of digital technology. Our Open Studios weekend offers behind-the-scenes access to the usually private spaces where art is created. Meet the people behind the work, discover their practices and processes and gain insight into the environments that shape and inspire their creativity.
