EXTRAMENTALE EXTRAVAGANZA ⛓đŸ”Ș I’m molto heureuse to have contributed to chĂšre @marchand.julia @extramentale_venice newly baked publication « I AM THE F****** SUBJECT: ART AND ADOLESCENCE », out now with @lenz.press . Could not be in a better company of artists, writers and other adolescently minded thinkers đŸ–€ « Kill The Cop In Your Head » is an essay that explores moral panics and literary extremity in a time when society’s fetishization of adolescence continues to generate intense debates. I address works by Dennis Cooper, GisĂšle Vienne, Karl Andersson, Michael Salerno / Kiddiepunk and the exhibition « PrĂ©sumĂ©s innocents » (CAPC, Bordeaux, 2000). Available at all good bookshops. Credit where credit’s due - merci to mastermind @creepjacuzzi for the inspirational title of my text ⚰

Join us for the talk with Jannis Marwitz & curator and writer Anya Harrison upcoming Thursday 19. March at 6:30 pm 💭💬 @anyacharrison ‘Fish fish’ is the current exhibition by Jannis Marwitz at the gallery in Zurich and on view until 28. March 2026. Is a gap the opposite of a hole? When we consider a hole, the void, the core, the nothingness, and the emptiness – still assuming the gap might be its opposite – is the gap the place where light shines through? But whereas there might be only one hole, which stands for all the holes existing, a gap is something in between the things. A gap is something that connects, though vague. A gap is something that gives rhythm, is it repeated. It’s flickering. To embody the gap and its repetition in the exhibition, several radiators are depicted in paintings. These works are called Radiator Pieces. A title, that is carried over to other, sculptural works in the show. Even though this choice is made to emphasise a connection of sense over several media - here sculpture and painting - you might consider an agglomeration under the same title a piece of manual or a form of guidance for something that can be easily repeated at home. It may be useful to remember, however, that a gap can also be a cut, a gaping wound. Something difficult to trust. A gap can be dangerous if we underestimate its distance. And if we do, we fall, into the brightest of holes. #jannismarwitz

OUT NOW « I Am The F****** Subject: Art & Adolescence » published by @lenz.press Edited by @marchand.julia in collaboration with @vittoriamorpurgo This volume redefines the coming-of-age genre by addressing the contours of the obsession with the prolonged teenager years. Contemporary art views adolescence as a mental state, a condition that has eroded the traditional markers of the passage into adulthood; not a transitory phase but a prolonged mode of being or even a critique of a world that itself refuses to stabilize. This book also celebrates the closing of Extramentale (2016-2026) With Texts by Morgan Labar, Julia Marchand, Julie Ackermann, Anya Harrison, Giulia Mariachiara Galiano @julie__ackermann @anyacharrison @giuliamariachiara Cecilia Larese, Vittoria Morpurgo interviewed alongside Julia Marchand, artists and curators: Robin Plus, Gaia Vincensini, RaphaĂ«lle Serre, Linda Voorwinde, TohĂ© Commaret, Louise Nicolas de Lamballerie, Caroline Poggi, Jonathan Vinel, Kevin Blinderman, Mohamed Bourouissa, Michal NovotnĂœ, Laura Owens, Magda Szpecht, Thomas Liu Le Lann, Velvet Aubry, Arnaud Dezoteux, Prune Phi, Alban Diaz, Ant Ƃakomsk, Liselor Perez, Francesca Grilli, Camille Aleña, Joanna Kordjak, Katarzyna KoƂodziej-PodsiadƂo Designed by Lorenzo Mason Studio 2026, English, softcover, 11 x 18.5 cm, 160 pages ISBN 979-12-80579-89-8

NO ROMANCE 🧊 To coincide with Gili Tal’s @foreverdelayed_ solo exhibition « Soft and Bouncy » currently on at Galerie Buchholz in Berlin, I wrote a feature on Tal’s practice for the new issue of @flashartmagazine . There’s a lot there about exhaustion, fracking for images, hot air, alchemy, smoke and mirrors
As always thanks to @michelaisajedi for commissioning đŸŒȘïžđŸ–€

12 VARIATIONS What could be better than writing about friends for friends ? đŸ–€ I penned a small text for dearest @conditions___ to accompany the current exhibition by @rob_kulisek , a video piece filmed with the one and only @u.r.a.m.i - thank you to all three for this đŸ–€ « As far as intoxicated (de)structurings go, Rob Kulisek’s 12 Variations is a composite half-fictional film portrait bursting with dissolving distinctions. Part classic documentary, part confessional, part nocturnal reverie, all and none of the above, it follows Paul-Alexandre Islas, an artist and burgeoning musician, as his own internal struggles seamlessly merge with the Parisian underworld and bleed into that of classical music and its prodigies. Is madness a prerequisite to becoming a musical virtuoso? Must the demonic energy of the composition also pulse through the artist’s veins, in danger of overspilling, for the score to be mastered? Like Icarus, flying too close to perfection can lead to a sudden and painful descent to reality. Like the addict, the pianist dwells in a microcosm that demands commitment, desire, sacrifice. To possess requires opening oneself up to possession. » - excerpt from the text

We are happy to announce our upcoming exhibition Alessandro Di Lorenzo Anaïs Horn Richard Maguire UNDER LUNAR INFLUENCE Vernissage Thursday, December 11, 17.00—21.00 With a text by Anya Harrison Supported by the Forum Culturel Autrichien Paris @austrocult Alessandro Di Lorenzo is an artist from Matera (IT), who currently lives and works in Paris. His practice spans sculpture, drawing, installation and video, unfolding in a hybrid space between the real, the imaginary and the symbolic. Rooted in metamorphosis, his work explores encounters with sensitive environments that open new possibilities of co-dependence. His recent pieces take the form of speculative docufictions, presenting interdependencies between humans and non-humans, biological forms, and both modern and ancestral technologies. They investigate vernacular rites and marginal realities in southern Italy, revealing the role of alternative cosmogonies in contemporary society. Richard Maguire lives and works in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His practice examines power relations shaped by the intertwined histories of race and sexuality between Britain and South Asia. Through theoretical and material assemblage, he foregrounds overlooked elements in archival ephemera and material culture, revealing how parallel forms of oppression have reinforced one another. His work, often in small-scale mimetic drawings, negotiates the historical absence and representation of sexualities and their entanglement with exploitative economies, political movements and key historical figures. Anaïs Horn, born in Graz (AT), lives and works in Paris and Lunigiana (IT). Her multidisciplinary practice moves fluidly across media, creating intimate, often site-specific settings. Her work traces the tension between presence and absence, where personal narratives—autobiographical fragments, rites of passage or the biographies of historical (female) figures—evolve into broader reflections on contemporary existence and how memories and (her)story/stories echo through the spectral presence of objects and spaces. She frequently introduces elements of illusion and mystery, situating her work within a space of the in-between.

đŸ«ŠINFERIOR LIPS is the title of @rebeccalindsmyr ’s exhibition that has just opened at @nilsstaerk and for which I’ve penned a small textual accompaniment. « A name is always in need of a mouth to enunciate it, to turn the guttural sound that rises from the interior depths of a sack of flesh and bones into meaning, into something solid, something that carries weight
Stick a chewing gum in your mouth and the act of chewing, of salivating, can impede speech. An empty nourishment, it fills the stomach with air, before being spat out, another unnecessary, unneeded material layer refusing to unstick itself from this scorched earth. The oral equivalent of a fingerprint rejected from its matrix, l’informe with a faint waft of artificial strawberry pink. Viewed through perforated steel cladding that lines some of the walls, Rebecca Lindsmyr’s works give up their image-ness to become a flattened, layered mass, bulldozered over by the psychological pressure of being some body, any body. Are inferior lips naturally born with an inferiority complex ? » ~~ extract Thank you to @rebeccalindsmyr for inviting me to ruminate on your work đŸ€
