This brand film was special. Not just because the product genuinely improves people’s lives, but because everyone involved was willing to take a BIG swing. We tell three deeply personal stories that never shy away from the difficulty that makes their victories actually matter. We glimpse the product, then don’t see it again for FOUR(!) minutes. And we crisscrossed the country for nearly two weeks to capture it all. Endless thanks to the incredible creative team at Strutt — Henri, Rivers, @barn.ye , Jane, and many more — for the courage and passion behind this work. Life in prison for marijuana. That’s the story of my new doc, which I’m honored to share today. More than two years in the making, the film follows the story of a father and daughter — in the wake of a life sentence for a nonviolent Marijuana offense I’m eternally grateful to @alelop13 and Pedro for letting us into their lives and trusting me to translate their story into this film. It’s hard to express the highs and lows of 2021, so i’ll just say it’s been a fucking year! Here’s to the old friends, new friends, amazing projects, and unforgettable memories

What I’ll remember most about my grandpa, Glenn, was his endless curiosity about the world. He was one of my biggest role models, and a huge inspiration in my own creative passions. I was lucky enough to inherit his sense of humor, which I’ll always cherish — and will always annoy the people around me. Even with Alzheimer’s, his personality never failed to shine through. One doctor didn’t believe he had the disease, because my grandpa was so charming. Glenn was kind, witty, and compassionate. He spent most of his life as a college professor, and traveled the continent with my grandma, Clara, in an RV once he retired. Whatever you believe about politics, my grandpa was fiercly liberal. A few years ago as he woke up from anesthesia, a surgeon asked him who the president was. My grandpa responded, “That asshole!” He died on December 13th, and the many people who loved him will dearly miss him. He lived with my grandma at home until his final weeks. The morning after he died, L.A. had a record-setting rainstorm. It made me think about home — and it made me think about my grandpa.
