Volcanic spores flourishing, 11’ x 17’ 2025
The three watercolor paintings explore volcanic ecologies through the lens of nature’s queer performativity. An evocation of eruption, magma, heat, ash; desert and fertility; iridescence, toxicity, time warps, and beyond-human reformulation. Each piece conjures a semi-dreamlike state—a fusion of my dreams and volcanic research—drawing from volcanic flora and sulphuric myths.

‘Your Lack is my Lack’ 2024 🐊🦎
(wooden puppets, acrylic paint, pencil)
The two puppets that make up ‘Your Lack is my Lack’ embody what Karen Barad has descripted as ‘nature’s queer performativity’. The bodies of the puppets are assemblages; islands or volcanic terrains. Their structure mirrors the movement of geological events and it conjures their transformative essence. One becomes many, and thus new landscapes are created. Coming from a traditional hand drawn animation background the artist engages with a different aspect of animation. The two entities are animated within the archeological space through the natural elements, entering a flirtatious dance, a constant sapphic teasing between them, the entities and the space that surrounds them.
The work was created for ‘Touching Faultlines’ curated by @panosgnk and @paradise_host at the archeological space of Gortyna in Crete. 🌋❤️
