Rye bread with onion and caraway. This is a top tier sandwich bread and was made to be eaten with the likes of sauerkraut, mustards, and pickles. I definitely will make this again! Flour from @carolinaground and recipe from @csaffitz

Finding joy where I can when the world is heavy. Baking and eating various types of breads does that for me. I love pretzels so much. When we visit my partner’s family in Germany, I strive to eat one a day. It is easy to do when my favorite ones are from the gas station around the corner there and only cost < €1. They are a little harder to find in Asheville and cost significantly more, so this @csaffitz recipe is a great alternative. I purposely made this batch a little thicker, I love a bready pretzel! Like most bread, is best served with butter. If possible, I would definitely recommend making/baking/cooking/creating something you love and brings you joy! Even if it is not perfect, you are usually better from it 💚🥨🧈

The shifting of seasons inspired me to make a pumpkin sourdough. Perfect toasted with butter, flaky salt, and cinnamon. 🧡🎃🍂 I made my normal sourdough recipe but subbed some of the water for pumpkin purée and added a hint of maple syrup. I have been finding moments of peace in the cooler mornings and evenings. I hope you are also able to find moments of peace somewhere 💚

My first go at a 100% naturally leavened einkorn loaf! It is not perfect yet but is still pretty good, the flavor is so nice! Made with @carolinaground einkorn flour and method from @1000bitesofbread that I learned from during @ashevillebreadfest 💚 I am excited to keep exploring with this flour!

I love an afternoon tea but haven’t been to one in the US that has done it for me, so I did it myself. A perfect reason to do lots of baking, shopping at the farmer’s markets, and wearing pretty dresses with your friends. I love all the amazing produce coming in and being able to support locally 💚 Thank you @chefandreasavl for all the help prepping and assembling! My rye and sourdough were made with flour from @carolinaground and @farmandsparrow Strawberries from McConnell Farms and @fullsunfarm Ramps from @mountainfoodproducts_avl Brebis from Grass Roots Farm and Dairy Pea shoots from @northashevilletailgatemarket Chèvre from @spinningspidercreamery Brie from @threegracesdairy Bear Wallow Alpine Cheese from @ashevillecheese Eggs from @sugarhollow_farm Scones, cookies, and lady fingers made with @two_stones_farm_mill flour Hibiscus tea from @ashevilleteaco Spices from @spicewalla Beautiful flowers from @fullsunfarm

Making random things, like homemade cereal, brings me so much joy, which is extra important these days! I cannot say if it is necessarily more sustainable than store bought but is fun and made me happy. Basically mix your preferred flours, grains, nuts, seeds, salt, flavor, etc. with water until it is like a pourable pancake batter. Spread thinly over parchment/silpat, bake on low temp until surface cracks, break into pieces, and bake until dry/crunchy. This version is oat flour, cornmeal, buckwheat, chia seeds, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I am going to experiment with different combinations but this was a pretty good start! I hope everyone is finding ways to be kind to themselves and find joy wherever possible 💚

Soup as a warm hug because we all need more warm hugs right now. The end of last year was really hard for me. The beginning of this year has been so difficult for many of my loved ones and know it has been for many others too. Sometimes the weight of life and the world can feel like it’s impossible to not be crushed by it. During these times I try to find the small joys like a bowl of soup, baking bread for a friend, a good book while curled up with my partner and pets, a walk outside, or a warm hug. I am so angry about what is happening in our country and the world. I do not have the answers but will do my best to have my actions leave people with the feeling of a cozy soup and warm hug. I will call out hate and intolerance and advocate for what is good and kind. I hope sharing food and advocation for people and the planet will help in any way, if even to just breathe and enjoy a bowl of soup. 💚

My last post was 22 days before Helene and it has been a wild, devastating, and also beautiful time since then. We got potable water back this past week after 53 days without it, so I made pumpkin pancakes today. It felt fitting. Asheville and the surrounding areas still need help. Checkout the following link to help businesses from afar. Wherever you are, please make an effort to shop small and local if possible. /love-asheville#support Thank you to the following people and businesses that fed me, gave me water, internet, power, and community 💚 I am grateful. Sorry to any I missed. There are other countless businesses and people that have done and are doing amazing things in the community, thank you. @chefandreasavl @annacday @minimaedelcreates @autbro10 @julesmontgomery4 @hanaynay17 @sunnypointcafe @cellarestbeerproject @frenchbroadpantry @westendasheville @pollenavl @plantisfood @12basketscafe @motheravl @ittoramenbar @sopranarooftop @drinklmnt @archetypebrewingavl @thewhalewavl @newbelgium_avl @tacoboyeats @mountainfoodproducts_avl

Soaking up all the summer produce for as long as possible 💚 1. Dill is the best herb, especially with cucumber, tomatoes, scallion cashew cheese, and rye. 2. My first attempt at Darnitsky rye bread that I learned from @farmandsparrow at the @carolinaground @bake.for.ukraine event. Made with all @carolinaground flour and love for Ukraine. 3. Heirloom tomatoes, figs with balsamic, @frommybowl dill white bean salad 4. 🍉🍈🍑 💚💚💚 5. Miso butter and parm pasta with fresh corn, peaches, heirloom tomatoes, and basil - this was so good 6. Muscadine grapes, figs, peaches, and the last raspberries from our garden 7. Pawpaws, chicken of the woods, and other treasures from the farmer’s market. So excited about the pawpaws!
