Today, we honor the women who shaped not only who we are⦠but how we see the world.
The mothers who taught us creativity and resilience.
Who showed us that beauty lives in the details.
That home is something you feel.
That community matters.
That storytelling, generosity, hard work, and care are all forms of design.
For many of us in the creative industry, our first understanding of space, hospitality, color, culture, and belonging started at home⦠often through the quiet lessons of our mothers.
This Motherās Day, the AAPIDA Los Angeles Chapter shares reflections honoring the women whose influence continues to shape our lives, our work, and our community.
To all the mothers, grandmothers, chosen family, and maternal figures who light the way forward ā thank you. š¤

What Happens In Vegas⦠AAPI Design Alliance style! Our Los Angeles chapter hit the road for our first-ever team trip to Las Vegas Market! š° We were there to cheer on our very own Peti Lau as she rocked the Ahead of the Curve panel, moderated by the fabulous Lara Hallock of Luxe Interiors + Design Texas, alongside the incredibly talented Anne-Marie Barton and Chris Todd.
From inspiring design talks to showroom hopping (and maybe a little late-night Thunder from Down Under fun 𤫠šŗ), it was a trip with endless laughs, hair extensions, Korean BBQ and of course design inspo. Thank you to Jon Pertchik + ANDMORE! Hereās to many more adventures together⦠yeehaw š¤

A golden hour to remember at the luminous De Gournay House š āØ
Golden Hour Social 2025 marked our third year bringing together the AANHPI creative community for an unforgettable evening of culture, connection, and celebration ā in honor of AANHPI Heritage Month.
The house came alive as designers, storytellers, and leaders from across Los Angeles gathered to celebrate heritage, creativity, and community. One of the eveningās most inspiring moments: awarding the very first @aapi_designalliance scholarship ā a meaningful milestone in our ongoing commitment to uplifting future AANHPI voices.
With record-breaking attendance and vibrant energy throughout, this yearās event felt especially memorable.
Thank you to our gracious host @degournay and generous sponsors @starkcarpet@starkcarpet_la and @samuelandsons for helping bring it all to life. š«

As leaders of AAPIDA (@aapi_designalliance ) | Los Angeles Chapter, alongside RIOS (@rios.imagines ) we initially planned a Lunar New Year celebration for this day. However, in light of the recent wildfires, we quickly pivoted to a vital conversation on āRebuilding After Firesā to support LA wildfire victims and strengthen our community. We personally wanted to do our part as an organization to help our fellow Angelenos. We hope this dialogue is just the beginning of continued efforts to rebuild fire-resistant homes and neighborhoods. ā¤ļøšāØ
In the wake of the recent wildfires, itās more important than ever to come together and explore how design can foster resilience and recovery. With the support of our community, weāre excited to curate a space for meaningful conversation and action. This in-person and virtual panel will bring together a diverse group of experts to share practical, innovative approaches to rebuilding homes, designing fire-resilient landscapes, and navigating the post-disaster recovery process. This inclusive space is especially for those impacted by the fires, including those whoāve lost their homes.

Happy New Yearās Eve, everyone! 2024 was jam-packed, and Iām so grateful for all the amazing memories. The year began with a magical birthday celebration in Paris with my work crew, followed by a work trip to Alcoy and Valencia, Spain. Work had its ups and downs, but every moment was part of the journey. In October, we hosted our partners, Serip, touring both coasts and connecting with incredible clients. āØ
FAMILY - I became a guncle for the 5th time and celebrated my nephewās 100 days (a Vietnamese tradition) in Las Vegas in March. Attended my other nephews graduation in SF in May and then in June, the Nguyen clan reunited to wish our grandma a joyful 95th birthdayānearly 100 family members gathered in Jackson, MS. ā¤ļø
BESTIES + SOLO TRAVEL - July was a highlight as I joined my besties in San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City for a much-needed recharge. Earlier in February, I took a solo trip to Costa Rica, which was a transformative adventure. āļø
GIVING BACK - Seeing the AAPI Design Alliance grow across the USA this year was inspiring. Huge thanks to our LA leadership team for hosting incredible eventsāyouāre my CRAZY family, and Iām excited for whatās ahead in 2025! As a board member of Texas Crew Foundation, we celebrated the 55th Anniversary in October with a gala under a full T-Rex in Austin, TX. It was my last rodeo with the foundation, and Iām so proud of the new leadership team going forward. š¤
CHOSEN LA FAMILY - My volleyball family and local besties in LA made this year extra special. From beach volleyball every week in Santa Monica to celebrating milestones and dancing at Rhonda in Silver Lake, this crew is amazing. To my non-volleyball friends who host the best parties (Tu Madre) and late-night get-togethers (Pendry/Mondrian)āthank you for all the joy. My chosen family is my rock, and Iām so lucky to have you. š
Hereās to an unforgettable 2024 and exciting adventures in 2025. Thank you to everyone who made this year incredible. Letās make 2025 amazing! š¾
