Play takes center stage in our May 2026 issue. From imaginative classrooms and whimsical cafés to community spaces designed entirely through a child’s lens, these projects prove that great design can spark curiosity at any age.
Our cover features The Willow Play Cafe in Toronto, where DS Studio and Denizens transformed a former dive bar into a richly layered gathering space for kids and adults alike. Walnut paneling, vintage seating, and softly glowing lighting ground the café, while hidden beyond a keyhole-shaped portal, a playful world of climbing structures, tactile puzzles, peg-light walls, and interactive architecture invites endless exploration.

Fashion and furniture are speaking the same language at Loro Piana.
For the first time, the Italian clothing brand's interiors collection directly aligns with its ready-to-wear line: The house translates its Spring/Summer 2026 muted florals, rich textures, and earthy tones into sculptural home pieces.
Leading the collection is Trama, a curving walnut room divider/bookcase by Francesca Lanzavecchia upholstered in ultra-soft double-faced wool. In other pieces, paisley jacquards, cashmere upholstery, and tactile natural fibers extend the brand’s signature quiet luxury aesthetic into every corner of the home.

Set atop a remediated coal mine in West Virginia, Basecamp Delta rethinks what architecture in remote America can look like. Designed as the first of six camps at the Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve, the project pairs raw plywood interiors, exposed structural systems, and vibrant color with a sculptural pavilion whose undulating ceiling echoes the surrounding mountain landscape. Featured in "Out There: New Architecture Across America," the project exemplifies the book’s larger argument: ambitious, thoughtful design isn’t reserved for major cities—it belongs everywhere.

Parisian sensibility meets practical modern living in this reimagined Kyiv apartment by He.D. Group.
