Wabi-sabi embraces the elegance of imperfection, celebrating spaces shaped by time, simplicity, and a natural presence. Soft neutrals, muted earth tones, and weathered textures create an atmosphere of calm authenticity. Materials such as raw wood, handmade ceramics, linen, and stone highlight the beauty of irregularity, while gentle forms and organic silhouettes bring a sense of ease.

A well-designed residential foyer blends beauty and function, setting the tone for the home. Drawing inspiration from warm regions like Tuscany, Italy or Andalusia, Spain, materials like brick, tile, and wood create a welcoming, timeless feel. Brick offers rustic warmth, while terracotta or mosaic tiles add vibrant patterns and durability. Wood complements these textures, adding elegance through flooring or beams. Pairing these natural materials with large front doors that flood the space with light creates an airy, inviting atmosphere. This fusion of rustic charm and vibrant Mediterranean influence makes the foyer an impressive, welcoming entryway for any home.

Whispering the quiet elegance of contemporary Japan, Tokyo Stillness captures the harmony between craft and calm. Charcoal hues meet the softness of washi-inspired surfaces, while subtle metallics and dark woods lend depth and refinement. Each material speaks to balance — between light and shadow, natural imperfection and human precision. The result is a tranquil aesthetic that embodies restraint, contemplation, and sophistication.

A sense of quiet sophistication defines this material selection, inspired by the intimate character of Milanese homes. Warm woods, soft stones, and muted plasters establish a calm, tactile foundation, while leather and woven textiles add depth through subtle variations in texture. A palette of creams, sand, burgundy, and natural browns reinforces a restrained and harmonious atmosphere, where materials feel timeless and considered. Designed for spaces that prioritize comfort and discretion, the collection reflects a refined approach to contemporary residential interiors.

Last week at Milan Design Week, we spoke with Piero Lissoni (Lissoni & Partners) about FIVE SENSES — his immersive exhibition for Elle Decor Italia at Palazzo Bovara. Conceived as a sensory journey, the installation explored how materials, light, sound and spatial composition shape our perception of interiors. Each room activated a different sense, building a narrative that moved beyond aesthetics into atmosphere and experience. Within the exhibition, a dedicated section developed with Material Bank presented a selection of materials curated by Piero Lissoni, focusing on tactility, tonal balance and material interplay. In Constance, motan by LEIK transforms a former industrial hall into a contemporary workspace shaped by heritage and human-centred design. Defined by five-metre-high ceilings, exposed steel structures, and a strong architectural identity, the project balances openness with structure, creating an environment that supports both collaboration and focus. Warm materials, natural light, and carefully articulated zones bring clarity and atmosphere to the space, where functionality, well-being, and spatial character are seamlessly integrated.

Everyday actions take on new meaning through material expression. Contemporary Rituals brings together surfaces and textures that turn routine gestures into moments of pause, comfort and familiarity—small anchors within the rhythm of daily life. Warm woods, tactile ceramics, woven surfaces and decorative motifs create a rich dialogue between past and present. Geometric compositions and handcrafted details evoke a sense of memory and continuity, while refined finishes and contemporary palettes introduce lightness and clarity. This selection celebrates the emotional value of repetition—materials that invite touch, encourage presence and quietly shape how spaces are experienced. +

In contrast to fast cycles of production and replacement, this collection highlights surfaces and finishes designed to age gracefully and remain relevant over time. From natural stone and textured ceramics to solid woods, woven fibres, and refined metals, these materials combine strength with timeless character. Neutral tones and mineral textures create a balanced palette that supports thoughtful design choices and interiors built to endure.

Heritage materials explores how technological innovation can preserve and reinterpret craft traditions. 3D wall panels, digitally milled wood, textured ceramics, embossed leather and patterned textiles reveal how artisan techniques evolve through precision tools and advanced fabrication. Regional motifs are analysed, scaled and refined, extending the possibilities of natural and engineered materials alike. The result is a dialogue between past and future — where craft knowledge is not replaced, but amplified.
