Whelan Construction is proud to announce the successful completion of the CATSA CT PBS Hardware Enablement Project at Vancouver International Airport. 🎉 Following the @vanconstruct Gold award-winning CATSA Plus Conversion Project, our team led the full conversion of all Domestic and International security checkpoints at YVR, replacing legacy X-ray screening systems with state-of-the-art Computerized Tomography (CT) technology in all security screening lanes across four major checkpoints: - Domestic Terminal Building South (DTB) full CT hardware replacement across 5 lanes - International Terminal Building (ITB) full CT hardware replacement across 6 lanes - In-Transit Pre-Clearance Facility (ITPCF) full CT hardware replacement across 3 lanes - Link Checkpoint 3 (SPIL Level 4) full CT hardware replacement across 3 lanes Before installing the new systems, the project team completed carefully staged nighttime electrical upgrades in coordination with YVR and key stakeholders, ensuring the airport could meet the new machines’ power demands while enabling a smooth, low-downtime transition from the existing equipment. Whelan Construction is proud to announce the safe and successful completion of Gate 47 on March 5th, following the recent completion of Gates 48 and 49 at Vancouver International Airport. ✈️ This marks another major milestone in YVR’s Bridge Replacement Program that has seen our team deliver new passenger boarding bridges across YVR's International and Domestic Terminal Buildings — all within a fully operational airside environment, surrounded by active aircraft operations and ground support equipment. The scope at Gate 47 included the removal and replacement of the existing bridge structure, relocation of the preconditioned air unit, and all associated structural steel, mechanical, electrical, and communications work. As a value-added improvement, existing superstructural footings at Gates 47 and 49 were upgraded to meet current structural seismic requirements. Working in a fully operational airport environment means every gate closure is a commitment to YVR, its airline partners, and the traveling public. Our team takes that responsibility seriously, and we're proud to have returned Gate 47 ready for full operations as agreed. We're proud to announce the award and commencement of the Construction Management contract for the Canadian Air Transport Security Agency (CATSA) CT PBS Hardware Enablement Project at @yvrairport . Following the successful completion of the award-winning CATSA Plus Conversion Project, our team is proud to lead the full conversion of all Domestic and International security checkpoints at YVR. The project will replace existing x-ray screening systems with new Computerized Tomography (CT) technology across the Domestic Terminal Building South (DTB), International Terminal Building (ITB), In Transit Pre-Clearance Facility (ITPCF), and Link Checkpoint 3. This upgrade will enhance security through improved threat detection, streamline passenger screening, and increase operational efficiency. Travellers will benefit from reduced screening times and will be able to keep laptops and liquids in their carry-on bags. Today our team took part in Haul for Hope at YVR, pulling a 67,000 lb Westjet aircraft 75 metres in just 26.96 seconds! 💪✈️ This incredible event, hosted by Hope Air and supported by Vancouver Airport Authority, brings together organizations across the region to raise vital funds that help Canadians in rural and remote communities access life-saving medical care.
