We are excited to introduce you to the new Mensch Maschine fellows and give you a glimpse into their work and plans for the residency. Today: Phumulani Ntuli (@phumulani_ntuli ), a sculptor, video artist, and researcher whose essayistic films map the porous movement of images through fiction, collage, and performance. His work collides documentary and invention to probe post-lens materiality, revealing history’s gaps, silences, and ripples within geopolitical imaginaries. Merging sculpture, video installation, and performative research, he makes visible what archives leave behind. Trained at the University of Johannesburg and ECAV Sierre (where he earned the Prix-excellence), Phumulani has shown at Fak’ugesi, Kampala Biennale, and Live Works, with residencies at Fondazione Pistoletto and Alps Art Academy. ➡️ Stay tuned to see how Ntuli’s work unfolds over the coming months. We’ll share updates as Phumulani’s vision takes shape! A cooperation with @akademiederkuenste @e.on_foundation @visit_eonfoundation @u_jazdowski Credits: (1) Phumulani Ntuli. Point-Cloud, 2024. We are excited to introduce you to the new Mensch Maschine fellows and give you a glimpse into their work and plans for the residency. Today: Flora Weil (@florawl ), an interdisciplinary technologist, designer, and researcher whose practice connects ecology, anthropology, philosophy, and game design. She co-runs Nephila (@nephila.world ), a creative studio building open-source tools for experimental worldbuilding. During her residency, Weil will develop a project centered on the Gobi Desert, using autonomous browser agents to trace how trade, wind, migration, and love shape both environmental and human systems. These web-based “ghosts” gather shapes, sounds, texts, and actions, creating a dispersed choreography that reimagines AI as a medium for sensing planetary rhythms and more-than-human life. 👁 Stay tuned to see how this project unfolds over the coming months. We’ll keep you updated on our channels! A cooperation with @akademiederkuenste @e.on_foundation @visit_eonfoundation @u_jazdowski Credits: (1) Flora Weil. things that hesitate. We are excited to introduce you to the new Mensch Maschine fellows and give you a glimpse into their work and plans for the residency. Today: Edgar Fabián Frías (@edgarfabianfrias ), a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and brujx based in Los Angeles. During the Mensch Maschine residency, Frías will explore Indigenous and ancestral Wixárika technologies, especially the Nierika, to imagine new ecological and machinic futures. Drawing on ritual, code, trance-based drawing, and audiovisual practice, they will create sculptural and sonic works that bridge human, spirit, and more-than-human realms. Rooted in Wixárika lineage, queer/trans cosmologies, and Indigenous Futurism, Frías’ practice conjures portals of care, justice, and re‑enchantment. ➡️ Stay tuned to see how this research evolves over the coming months. We’ll share updates as Edgar’s project takes shape! A cooperation with @akademiederkuenste @e.on_foundation @visit_eonfoundation @u_jazdowski Credits: (1) VESSEL, Photo: Isabel Avila. We are excited to introduce you to the new Mensch Maschine fellows, and give you a sneak preview of their work and plans for the residency. Today: Sepideh Behrouzian (@sepidehbehrouzian ) During the Mensch Maschine residency, artist and researcher Sepideh Behrouzian is developing 'When I Call a Ghost', a multi-channel moving-image installation that explores the haunted intersections of energy, gender, and image-making. Bringing together archival films, geological samples, and reflective optics, the work begins to form a conversation with the ghosts of exhausted infrastructures, inviting viewers into a mirrored field where mechanisms of capture become gestures of attention. Through this ongoing project, Sepideh investigates how energy, matter, and memory co-inhabit landscapes and bodies shaped by extractive modernities. Born in Iran and based in Toronto, she works across film, installation, and research to trace how technology and modern systems of representation shape what we see and what remains unseen. 👁 Stay tuned to find out what happens in the next few months as 'When I Call a Ghost' unfolds! We’ll keep you updated on our channels! A cooperation with @akademiederkuenste @e.on_foundation @visit_eonfoundation @u_jazdowski Credit: Sepideh Behruzian. Courtesy of the artist.

Looking back at Mensch Maschine: Return to Earth 👀  The group exhibition of the VISIT Fellows 2024-2025, presented by E-WERK Luckenwalde, JUNGE AKADEMIE der Akademie der Künste and us. Between its opening in September and its closing in February, around 1,000 visitors experienced the exhibition in Luckenwalde. Joining the guided tour of the exhibition during our launch event in January was definitely one of the highlights of the evening. The exhibition explored the entangled relationships between human and machine, animal, plant and planet in a time shaped by climate emergency and rapidly advancing digital technologies. Moving through the exhibition offered a moment of reflection: How can artistic practices help us rethink our relationship with technology, ecology and the futures we are collectively shaping? Grateful for the opportunity to experience these perspectives together in such a remarkable place of transformation! Featuring works by: Assem Hendawi, Emerson Culurgioni & Viktor Brim, hn. lyonga & Safiya Yon, Kira Xon 📸 Kathleen Pracht

It arrived! Our project All the Power That Remains finally finds its conclusion in the publication Procession. From 2019 to 2022, we visited, researched and worked on the abandoned test tracks of the Aerotrain, Transrapid and Hyperloop. Procession is both a critical and careful celebration of the effort, faith, rupture and return of unfinished ambitions. The publication contains the performance, sculptural and installation work made in this project, accompanied by texts from Marijke Lukowicz, Harald Welzer and Sebastian Muehl. Published and distributed by Kerber Verlag. After a long proces of sketching, evaluating, assembling and tests prints we are very pleased with the result. Many thanks go out to Anna Busdiecker for her careful design and necessary patience, Marijke Lukowicz, Sebastian Muehl and Harald Welzer for their thoroughly contemplations on this topic, @leinemannsiftung for their support of this publication, @kerberverlag for bringing and taking it into the world, and of course the @e.on_foundation for their generous support of the publication and the whole project. Please join us hanging out and presenting Processions @info_on_books @cafe_babette @kindlberlin at Kindl Brauerei Berlin on February 19, 8pm. We ll both be there looking forward seeing you!

🗣 Incoming news! Starting in 2026, the Mensch Maschine programme will welcome the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art (@u_jazdowski ) as a new European partner. Together, we will collaborate on exchange residencies and a joint public programme including an interdisciplinary Autumn School to expand dialogue across Europe and connect Polish, cultural, and regional perspectives with new networks of artists and thinkers. For many years, U–jazdowski has hosted an internationally acclaimed artist-in-residence programme alongside exhibitions and discourse in contemporary and transdisciplinary art. Today, the residency serves as a space to explore coexistence, collaboration, and the relationship between humans, the non-human, and the posthuman world amid global crises. Upcoming projects will focus on strategies for coexistence and regeneration. Don’t forget to apply for 2026: the open call for the next fellowship is still open until 16 November!
