The Book of Mentors - Fire Service Names You Should Know
•
This project is dedicated to each and every fire service mentor, whether they are in the book or not. Mentors are the pulse of the fire service, keeping traditions and new innovations alive; thus moving our culture foward.
•
I pondered on this book for many years, motivated by firefighters in my own circles unaware of the giants around them. Realizing the fire service outside my circles could use this, I made it available for anyone (1st hard copies going to our two newest members at WPFD).
•
This is by no means the complete list of fire service mentors (60 are represented in the book), just the ones that directly or indirectly shaped my career. Some are considered great friends, some are acquaintances, and others I may never meet. Some names in the book are recognizable, while others may not be. This is also not a list of every attribute they are known for, just a list of some. The goal was to have one mentor per page. Take this document add mentors, edit mentors, and make it your own to pass along.
•
CREATORS NOTE: The information in the book is as accurate as I could make it. Some information maybe outdated or inaccurate. I did the best I could 😆

This book is available online for free (link in bio). Once on the website- scan QR code to download the PDF version or use Google Doc link to download a version you can edit.
Can Confidence - Searching for Life and Fire
This class is designed to build confidence in the most neglected tool found on nearly every fire apparatus, the 2½-gallon water extinguisher. The “can” can be an extremely effective lifesaving tool by allowing a well-trained firefighter to quickly apply water between fire and victims. This class covers valuable skills on searching and confining fire with the can and closing the interior door to isolate the fire, thus protecting the search. Attendees will also learn proper filling and pressurization steps and useful can modifications. Finally, attendees will witness the effect of the can on preflashover conditions, increasing firefighter safety. Let’s start the lifesaving extinguishment process by applying what could be the fire’s first interaction with water.
4hr live fire, hands on training session 🔥 which has been revamped for FDIC. This is an action packed program you wont want to miss!

Prep day at the 2026 Bay Area Fire Conference is in the books. 🔥
Spent the day getting the props built, layouts dialed in, and making final adjustments for two days of Can Confidence – Searching for Life & Fire H.O.T.
Huge thank you to everyone behind the scenes helping make this happen. Looking forward to putting in work with a great group of students this weekend.

Stick to the basics, and when you feel you’ve mastered them, it’s time to start all over again. Begin anew, again with the basics, this time paying closer attention. 💊

The past two days the Station 63 training tower has had the pleasure of hosting the @vententersearch_com training cadre as they present their Can Confidence HOT (Hands On Training) class. This class is apart of a the larger Trails End Fire Conference based in Oregon City. This conference consists of multiple HOT classes as well as lectures and brings firefighters in from across the region and country.
Can Confidence is designed to build confidence in one of the most underutilized tools on the fireground—the 2½-gallon water extinguisher, commonly known as the “can.” When placed in the hands of a well-trained firefighter, the can becomes a powerful lifesaving tool. Used while searching ahead of the hose line, it allows firefighters to quickly apply water between the fire and potential victims. This class emphasizes starting the extinguishment process with what may be the fire’s first interaction with water, a small but decisive action that can save lives.
Thank you for choosing CCFD6 as your training location and for including Truck 63 crews in Can Confidence.
