Ruckapalooza is in full swing in the Nation’s Capital. 💪 We’re LIVE with @GORUCK in Washington, D.C., as ruckers come together for a weekend of miles, grit, and remembrance honoring all who served and sacrificed in the Global War on Terrorism. We kicked off the weekend by completing the Capital Ruck Shakeout yesterday, which started and ended at the future site of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial, bringing every step back to the mission at the heart of this movement. 🇺🇸 Not in D.C.? You can still ruck virtually from anywhere throughout the month of May. Learn more at the link in our bio.

“MURPH” = “BODY ARMOR” Honor the sacrifice with work WHY MURPH When Lt. Murphy did the workout now named after him, he called it “BODY ARMOR” and it was designed to train as you fight, meaning — with all your kit on. In combat, you never go anywhere without weight. If you run, you sprint with your weight on (and your guns). If you crawl, you have your kit on. It’s heavy and you get stronger to deal with it by training in it. That’s how it works. It has become a global tradition to wear a weight vest during MURPH, done on Memorial Day. We’re all doing it and hope you’ll join us. One note on a modification - Rows vs. Pull-ups: The workout calls for 100 pull-ups. If you can and want to do it exactly as prescribed, good. If you need to modify this section, bent over sandbag rows also hit the “pull” movement. But they’re less taxing and for me, they don’t bring on elbow tendinitis. I’m not trying to talk you out of anything. I do the rows now because my elbows don’t cooperate very well with my life goals sometimes, and doing MURPH this way to honor the sacrifice is better than doing nothing. — @jasonjmccarthy Cofounder, GORUCK

82 YEARS AGO In the dead of night at 1:51 a.m. on June 6, 1944, the 82nd Airborne Division plummeted into the heart of occupied France. While the world slept, Mission Boston was already in motion, hurling thousands of paratroopers through a gauntlet of anti-aircraft fire and thick fog. They didn’t land in neat formations; they were scattered across the flooded hedgerows and stone steeples of Sainte-Mère-Église, forced to fight where they fell. This was the moment the “All-Americans” traded the safety of the sky for the brutal reality of the ground, securing the flank of the Allied invasion and changing the course of history forever. To commemorate the 82nd anniversary of D-Day and the division’s legendary role in the liberation of Europe, you are tasked with an 8.2-mile ruck. This isn’t just a distance; it’s a physical tribute to the grit and sacrifice of the paratrooper. You are carrying the weight of that legacy and your own gear to prove you have what it takes to shoulder the burden. Put in the work. Embrace the suck. Earn the patch that honors those who jumped into the dark. THE OBJECTIVE Distance: 8.2 Miles The Load: Recommended 35–45 lbs (The All-American Standard) but ultimately Rucker’s Choice The Goal: Maintain a steady, purposeful pace to honor the mission timeline. GORUCK COMMITMENT: 1% FOR THOSE WHO SERVE 100% of the proceeds from the Airborne 8.2 miler will go directly to supporting Fox Force 55 and their historic all-women parachute jump into Normandy for the 82nd anniversary of D-Day and beyond.

How I accidentally committed to a Basic Parachute Course in my late 40’s: These things always start innocently enough. You go on a long ruck with people you just met, and before you know it, you’re living out that infamous patch: That sounds like a horrible idea. What time? Only this time, the horrible idea wasn’t more miles. It was jumping out of a plane. Last November, Fox Force 55 asked if I wanted to join an all-female commemorative jump into Normandy for the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. Naturally, I said: “Oh hell yeah.” What I didn’t realize was this wasn’t a tandem jump. To get to Normandy, I had to complete a Basic Parachute Course and earn my wings with FIVE solo static-line jumps. So I showed up in Palatka, Florida with my boots, questionable confidence, and a strategy of simply not overthinking it. The next few days were a blur of PLFs, harness drills, safety briefs involving power lines, alligators, and live firing ranges, plus enough camouflage and bug spray to transport me straight back to my Agency days. Then came jump week. Jump 1: panic squat landing.
Jump 2: neck burn from the risers.
Jump 3: dragged across a runway in high winds like a ragdoll.
Jump 4: first jump from a C-47 and everything clicked.
Jump 5: partial malfunction, narrowly missed a runway sign, somehow stuck the landing. Against all odds, I walked away with five solo jumps, blood wings, and zero broken bones alongside an incredible group of women from FF55. Next stop: the skies over Normandy. As part of GORUCK’s commitment to 1% for those who serve, 100% of proceeds from the AIRBORNE 8.2 Miler will support Fox Force 55 and this all-female commemorative parachute team.
Full blog story in the link in bio. Join me in supporting these amazing women by joining the AIRBORNE ruck or donating directly to the link in bio. No amount is too small.

“DAMN THAT’S BIG” Your initial reactions are exactly what we expected. In product design, I believe that by default the best feature is no feature. As nature does, reduce something down to its simplest form. This means there’s less to go wrong and less in the way. Less Is More. Rucker 1.0 came out 10 years ago with a flat back panel (no additional lumbar support) Rucker 3.0 added lumbar support - dense, padded foam to support your lower back on the move. I was shocked at how much more comfortable this was under load. Shocked. Sometimes, good ideas begin with “What if…” and as we started doing some heavier rucking challenges (100# plus), and some longer distances (50 Miler anyone?), Christian on our product team said what if we add a bunch of extra padding to the lumbar. We sampled it and I’ve been testing it for a couple years now. It’s not as important on short, light rucks, but what is? What I’ve found paying close attention to my body, and always trying to keep my form as good as possible, is that right when it’s time to really start embracing the suck, my body has a tendency to lean forward at the hips, to transfer the weight on my back more over my center line. This, of course, is because my shoulders and back need to get stronger and I’m working on it! However, with the BIG ASS LUMBAR support on the 5.0, there is a natural tendency for me to keep my shoulders back as the pad pushes (comfortably) right back against my lower back, quieting those lower back muscles that so many of us keep engaged too often staring at a phone or sitting down in a comfy chair. I find it very good for my posture and my form when rucking, and I like that a lot. As we know, said with a smile, comfort is the enemy. And less is more. Except when it comes to the Rucker 5.0’s BIG ASS Lumbar Support. More is better and I hope that in your life you push the boundaries and carry the weight far enough to feel your body in its true glory, pushing right back at the goals you set and the challenges of the day.

RUCK LIKE A MOTHER This year’s Team Assessment, one of our toughest pinnacle events, ended with something we haven’t seen before: an even split at the finish line. Five women. Five men. All of them endured 48 hours of physical and mental challenges that our Cadre and Events Team put them through. And when the dust settled, the top team was Taylor and Allison, an all-female pair who didn’t just hold their own, they set the standard. A reminder that we can do hard things. Then there was Antonella. When her teammate was med-dropped due to extreme dehydration, she made the call to keep going. She cycled through two more partners before ultimately finishing the event, which she called the longest 48 hours of her life, as the only mixed female/male team. At the finish line, she was handed a bouquet of roses and it marks the only time we’ve ever seen flowers at the end of a GORUCK event. That contrast said it all. Strength and beauty, grit and grace, that’s what being a mother rucker is all about. Maybe not everyone wants to do a 48 hour event, but every mother deserves to be recognized. Get the moms in your life a Mother’s Day 5K patch for a family fun rucking time.
