Outwork. Unhustle is all about the long game. Our mission is to be a tool to strengthening our people for a life of adventure. We can’t experience the greatest joys without taking care of ourselves. We all know it. If we don’t train our body, we’ll never reach the potential of our life experiences. It’s like brushing our teeth. It’s the core, it’s the heart and it’s a gift.
We have to work on our body, we have to tend to our minds and we have to nourish ourselves in a way that gives our family, friends and selves the best possible future. While we love aesthetics (not gonna lie), we recognize our own vanity and our egos push for performance. However, our north star is the future. Quality of life and longevity. It’s the experiences of life. It’s the people in our lives. It’s a life full of capacity. Refuse to be the liability.
Do the work and take the time to play, because it’s the long game that matters.

This is about being prepared. Not about beating yourself up, just to beat yourself up.
Doing the hard work over a long period of time creates a remarkable well of resilience. One that we’ve talked about for years, but really only understand in the face of adversity. When life calls on you and the years of consistent dirty work are there to tap into.
Outwork to fight complacency. Outwork to fight decrepitude. Outwork to be prepared when you need your body to perform. Outwork to help others. Outwork so that you can play. Outwork in order to stay present. Outwork because you refuse to be mediocre.
When you outwork for your body, it outworks for you.

We don’t believe in the hustle culture. We believe in a playful life, but a playful life, without hard work is disappointing. It’s the discipline and the hard work that make the play more joyful, more grateful and more free.
So we believe in outworking and unhustling. Work hard. Then play joyfully. Put in your best effort, then do something you enjoy that fills you up.
Of the few things we have found to be true, this one is an unintentional ethos.
Discipline matters, hard work matters, but so does rest, so does play, so does love.

Honesty is the hardest part of training.
Not the workouts. Not the program. The moment you have to look at what’s actually happening in your body and tell yourself the truth.
I quit training for a 50 mile race and felt like a quitter for months. Turns out my body wasn’t weak. It was telling me something I didn’t want to hear.
When I finally listened everything changed.

I used to hit my percentages no matter what.

Since I had a total knee replacement, I’ve benched once a week using a RPE (RIR) system instead of a strict percentage based program. Some days are lighter to accommodate stress from work or life, other days are heavy because…. Well, I’m just feelin’ it.
I was feelin’ it today with the boys at the fire station.

If you sit a lot, ride a bike, or feel it in your low back when you stand up, this is worth trying.
This hip flexor plank builds strength and control through the hips and core at the same time.
🔸 Supports hip and core stability
🔸 Help reduce low back discomfort
🔸 Easy to add at the end of a workout
How to do it:
🔹 One knee on a box (around 20”)
🔹 Arms straight under shoulders
🔹 Other leg floating
🔹 Squeeze the glute and tighten the hip flexor on the box leg
🔹 Hold position, don’t let it fall apart
➜ Start with 3X 0:10 hold and 0:20 rest
➜ Build up as you gain proficiency in the position
A little shaking is fine. Just keep the position solid and build time under tension gradually.
