📣 Kulshan Race Beta Alert 📣
It’s race week and time for final checks, race plans and dialing in your team for flow in the mountains.
If you are hungry for race pro-tips, beta and immaculate mountain skiing vibes, look no further than a Kulshan Randonnee race report from Cascadia’s own Allen Taylor.
His team will join us again in 2026 and he wrote an excellent TR on the race in 2024 we think is really helpful for first time racers and seasoned vets alike. We would like to share with your team as you make final preparations for Saturday, or for those thinking of jumping into the short or long course at the last minute (looking at you fun hogs & hedgers).
In Allen’s words:
“I think Kulshan will be a fun race for anyone who comes out. If you are going for a finish and just hoping for some guardrails around a big day in the mountains you'll have a blast. If you have been training all winter for Euro racing you should come out and experience a European inspired race with a true Cascadian flair.
We had a classic PNW spring forecast calling for everything from partly sunny to snow to thunderstorms. The weather and snow ended up being fine though, clouds rolled in and out, sunny one minute, whiteout and snowing the next. The snow was consolidated, but not frozen with even a little fresh on top. I never had to put a shell on and finished with dry feet. This was also a very low snow year and the course was still good.
The other really cool thing that this year showed is that in poor weather they simply lower the two high points on the second and third climbs. The course is still really engaging and the skiing was good fall line. The wanding was good enough that even in a whiteout we were able to move efficiently.”

Late breaking news -- the mountain skiing on the volcanoes of the North Cascades has been very good!
Friend of Kulshan Randonnee, Pat Riffie, had a chance to get out to ski on Shuksan and Kulshan's southern aspects and submitted these images along with reports of great skiing on Kulshan's Squak glacier.
The Squak glacier is the final descent of the Kulshan long course and is one of the finest ski descents in North America. We cannot wait to share this pitch of skiing and place with racers.

Race is on! T-7 Days! The mountain is skiing well, glaciers are well filled in, course setup has begun and we are so excited to share this incredible mountain with you in just one week.
For those who've raced before, you already know: there is simply nowhere else like this. There is not another team's ski mountaineering race in North America that will take you over a glacier-covered active volcano skiing the iconic pitches of the Park Butte north face, Easton and Squak glaciers along the way – Cascadian skiing and teams ski mountaineering racing at its finest.
