The #USask community gathered on Friday, May 8 to officially welcome Vince Bruni‑Bossio as the institution’s 12th president and vice‑chancellor.
The event brought together students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, government partners, and community members to mark the beginning of a new chapter in the university’s history – a success story that Bruni-Bossio pointed out has always been derived from USask’s proud connection with our province.
“Our Saskatchewan context gives us a scale, a clarity of purpose, and a proximity to real world challenges combined with a deep sense of community that few universities enjoy. And our Saskatchewan story resonates globally: a university working in partnership with its province to tackle problems that the world is trying to solve.”

The wind carried more than sound today. It carried memory, love, grief, resilience and voices that must never be forgotten. ❤️
For Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ People, USask community members gathered to create and hang decorated brass bells throughout the red willow bluffs surrounding the Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre.
Each bell tells a story. Each one honours Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people.
Guided by the words of Elder Mary Lee, “face the wind, it brings back memories,” this living memorial invites all of us to pause, listen, reflect and remain accountable.
Thank you to everyone who came together in remembrance, creativity and community today.
The installation will remain in place for the next month, sounding with the wind.
