British American 2kTR: BUSA 1 - ICSA 5
John Lord King Match Race: BUSA 2 - ICSA 10
Ben Tylecote writes:
Greeted by notoriously rare Scottish sun on Wednesday team BUSA took to the Scottish waters to take on team ISCA (USA). The practice race went well, a solid 1-2 for BUSA. Which was followed by a 1-2 on the top reach of the next race. Alas the wind died, and the race was abandoned after we started making more progress backwards, with the tide, than towards the mark.
After a short postponement team BUSA struggled. 5 losses and 1 win after some very tight racing often decided on the bottom reach of the port hand square course meant USA took the first event of this years tour.
A night of Ceilidh dancing followed. Both teams socialising and learning from the more mature members of our hosts, Royal Northern Clyde. Friends were made, battle scares were born and dance moves were learnt! Onto the next days racing…
The forecast wasn’t promising much wind but after a quick stop to acquire sandwiches for lunch it was straight on to the water. A few hours were spent fighting the tide, rafting up, chatting - a few of our friends from over the Atlantic even deciding to take a dip in the “tropical” Glaswegian waters🥶.
Then the wind filled in. Racing was again tight. Pre starts fraught with penalties and races with lead changes. BUSA boat 1 won their first and last races and looked like they might take a few more but failed to execute at a few crucial moments. BUSA boat 2 was also in the fight finishing right on ISCA’s tail multiple times. Ultimately ISCA took the 2nd of the 5 event series. Pressure on BUSA to stay in the fight!!!
