Amazing job by the ACF teams, a building breeze and struggling at first to settle down but all settled eventually flying along. Tiring day for all but smiles all around on land! 😊 bring on some more tomorrow! 🤪
Very chuffed for the team today, a delayed start due to no wind but it filled in for a quick fantastic session. We must remember when learning new skills to relax and trust in what’s being asked of you, repeating and practising routines is the key.
It started with a lovely sunny day, and ended with a torrential downpour but with smiles all around! 😁 Very proud of the team today in all areas with lots of personal challenges meet, now for a good rest before we do it all again tomorrow.
The Fairwinds Art Exhibition is open.🖼️
The exhibition is on till the 4th May. It is a sustainable showcase celebrating the Isle of Wight’s artists and creative community.🎨
Held in memory of John Garlick, the event raises vital funds and awareness to support disabled sailors in gaining independence on the water, alongside local charities including the Daisy Ring Bus and Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

This guy working hard today after the long journey cleaning up the kit getting ready for the weekend. He asked how heavy the trolley was so we did a little test. 🤪
Team work makes the dream work! @jockmctaggart406
Thank you to @enterpriseuk for getting us and all our team kit to Scotland and back for the weekend 😁. All support helps and it enabled us to get our first disabled sailing weekend off the ground with the #royalnorthernandclydeyachtclub supported by @ryascotland
Having departed, door to door on both Friday and today at 0330. We had 2 clear comfy journeys and looking forward to doing it again soon.
Thank you to all who helped make this happen.
An amazing end to a weekend teaming up with the #royalnorthernandclydeyachtclub to get disabled and impaired sailors out training in @uksonar keelboats.
We couldn’t have done this without the support of @ryascotland who’s RDO @lauracowan27 with her amazing enthusiasm and drive is very infectious. And the whole RNCYC Team who have been so lovely and welcoming.
Thank you to all from the ACF Team and Participants.
Now off to sleep for the early drive back South.
Fantastic day today! It was lovely to team up with the #royalnorthernandclydeyachtclub to bring @acfsailing to Scotland. Supported by @ryascotland we successfully inspired 4 new disabled individuals into the @uksonar class and ACF Family along with 6 RNCYC team.
We have learnt so much about the lovely people and area along with what we need to do to make this successful and sustainable going forwards.
This year we are just working on 3 weekends with a potential team to join us in Cowes Week with the aim to growing truly equal and inclusive opportunities for individuals to grow.
If you think you’d like to join us as a participant or volunteer in Scotland or Cowes then do please get in touch as we are growing in all areas we need to build a bigger team 😁
This lovely volunteer always has a smile on her face! And truly shows that volunteering is not just on the days of activity we support but what happens in the background. The work being put in to make more happen in the future and the same thing that is both something you love and can use your skills to inspire. 😁
We love watching people use both their natural skills and grown confidence to achieve so much! Very proud of our little team. 😍
What a beautiful day, slightly smaller team today (their loss😝) but so many lovely gains made and a building supportive shore team we are very grateful for.
So much progression from the day before, we had a lovely little breeze to sail out just in time before the wind died. Followed by a tow around to Osborne Bay for a lovely little mini session where the cross current and changing wind direction gave great challenges of problem solving to the teams.
They all did really well and when getting tired it’s easy to not notice the gains until a debrief and watching the team effort and tired smiles after over a cold drink and late food really made the day.
😎 Did Summer arrive early? It was so busy today on the water with many yachts powerboats and constant stream of shipping that the team honestly did amazing in the sun shine today.
Building in there only little unique teams, each individuals was pushed in their own little way and was great to see some of the participants thriving. (Gutted for those who missed coming today due to illness but we are thinking of you).
One of the best bits were the skipper and volunteer team today, they stepped up in many areas, from arriving early to launch a boat for our neurodiverse team and reduce stress for them. Having compassion, patients and leadership taking control of there individuals teams.
Topped off with the shore team making sure we were all looked after in every way including, developing our behind the scenes work/processes to cutting out old sails ready to be recycled.
This is a growing team on a roll and we are very proud of all.
Thank you as always to all who help make this happen. 😊
Recycling old sails and using old sowing machines! What a fun evening!
Thank you to @mmsailsolutions for the induction in sowing machines.
This lovely volunteer team have been biting at the bit get started in making bags to raise funds for ACF.
Watch this space as this amazing team get going and we share the journey.
Team work is in every corner of what we do! 😁
Thank you to Rick from the CCYC who came to see what we were up too and be inspired by this lovely lot.
