Please join us on Wednesday, May 13 at Shields Library for a special screening of the indie comedy "Bottle Shock," starring Alan Rickman, Chris Pine, Bill Pullman, with a supporting role by UC Davis for its wine expertise! 🍷 🤩 It's the perfect movie to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris wine tasting, so save a seat (and room for popcorn)! Elizabeth McQueen, assistant professor of theatre studies at Florida State University and host of @esculent_podcast , will introduce the film. There will also be a pop-up display of items from our Food and Wine Collections that tells the real story behind the 1976 blind tasting that put California wine on the global map. Learn more about the event (registration optional; drop ins also welcome!): https://bit.ly/4wiKx1d Image descriptions: (all on orange and purple split background) 1. Aggies, are you feeling like you’ve fumbled your focus or you’re stuck on the sidelines with midterms? Head into our recently renovated “Aggie Traditions” group study room (Shields 371)! Inspired by UC Davis’ gameday spirit and a little Gunrock horsepower, this space is perfect for tackling teamwork as you charge full speed toward finals. The Aggie Traditions room is one of 8 reservable group study rooms at Shields Library that received a massive makeover with Aggie-related themes. Reserve the room: https://reservations.library.ucdavis.edu (link in bio) A big shout out to UC Davis Athletics for donating uniform shirts from several varsity sports for display in the room. #UCDavis #OurUCDavis @ucdavisaggies @ucdavisgunrock Video Description: Gunrock looking around various places in Shields Library for the new Aggie Traditions group study room, followed by a montage of him in the room studying and reenacting the sports he sees represented by jerseys on the wall. Video close invites students to reserve the room.

It’s the centennial of America’s most famous highway, Route 66, and we’re revved up about a new exhibit at Shields Library: “Celebrating 100 Years of the Mother Road: Route 66." Select materials from our Archives and Special Collections Department explore Route 66’s nostalgia, both celebratory and complex — from road trip adventures and diner recommendations to westward travel for migrant farm workers and Black motorists. The Route 66 exhibit is located in the Shields' lobby, to the left of the main stairwell, and will be on display through August 19. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4266zGQ (link in bio) Poster design by Tim Silva. #ucdavis #specialcollections #exhibit #route66 #motherroad #greenbook Image description: 1. Aggies, did you know we have a new student exhibit in Shields Library? 👀 Located on the north wall of Shields 150 (first floor, east wing), “The Past in Practice: Interpreting the Ancient World” presents final projects from three classes taught by Professor of Classics Bianca Hand. Students created original works, including mixed media, ceramics, paintings and sculptures, that apply ancient material culture to their own identities and contemporary concerns. The exhibit will be on display through spring quarter. If you’ll be at the Undergraduate Research Conference today, you can see three of the works temporarily on display there!
