Creating art in Dawson is special, especially when you get to make it with the community. I could not have finished installing my show alone in 6 days. Mēduh everyone who helped out!!! @kiacyukon invited the arts community and @yukonsova SOVA student alumni, creating such fantastic vibes all week. I appreciate everyone tolerating my music taste hahaha. After my opening, we got to experience some art in Dawson. @cwfcanada matched up against League of Lady Wrestlers @aaandyboyyyy !! And the Robert Service school Gym teacher earlier in the night. @kirstendo and I went to @diamondtoothgerties the next night and I got pulled up on stage to tap dance. We came early & got seats in Pervert’s row so I guess I was asking for it. Right before leaving, I got to teach mini zines at Robert Service School & a girl in grade 4 made her’s about @cwfcanada Wrestler Boot!! And after waiting all week to go to the thrift store, I found a @dawsoncitymusicfest shirt from the year I attended!!! 2012, the summer after attending SOVA. I met @hoodedfangmusic Dan & April that weekend. And saw @pokeylafarge and Andre Williams perform. Hey @mwsmwsss can you tell me who was the DCMF illustrator that year?

Mēduh everyone who attended my @kiacyukon ODD Gallery opening on Thursday!! I can’t believe I have friends, family & fans who think my art is more exciting than the ice breaking. Seriously tho, what a spectacle to witness. Ice bergs floating down the river with no mercy. I could feel Dawson’s stress at my opening but I appreciate everyone who made an effort to celebrate with me. Shout out to all the @yukonsova students who helped me install my show!! I love Dawson City & its art community

Macaulay House - Dawson City, Yukon Territory What a treat, to spend time in the residency that showed you what professional artists looked like. When I was a SOVA @yukonsova student, one of the first residency artists I witnessed at the Macaulay House was @ursula_johnson . We all got to visit her in her studio and witness her process weaving. I owe my career path to contemporary indigenous artists like her. Ursula showed me an Indigenous artist can thrive in the gallery. These are one of the many reasons why I submitted to @kiacyukon the ODD Gallery. If I wanted to showcase all 40 original pages from @conundrumpress We See Stars Only At Night, it HAD to be in Dawson, in the ODD Gallery. Because this place means a lot to me and my art career. I can’t believe 14 years ago I was a SOVA student and now I just had a whole SOVA class help me instal my show. Full circle moment. Mēduh Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in for hosting my show on your land. This immersive installation brings Pauls’ graphic novel off the page and onto the walls—80 hand-drawn pages transformed into a full gallery environment. Think layered collage, zip-a-tone textures, and repeating forms that turn the space into something you move through, not just look at. Created without a fixed script, the work unfolds as a surreal exploration of Tahltan culture, storytelling, and connection to land—blending animals, regalia, harvesting practices, and lived knowledge. This is storytelling at scale. A book, a space, a whole experience. Come spend some time with it. ————— About the Cole Cole Pauls is a Champagne and Aishihik Citizen and Tahltan comic artist, illustrator, and printmaker based in Haines Junction, Yukon.
