A little extension on “soft spaces” into creative spaces. It was an honour to shoot Julia in her masters studio. Julia was a TA in my abstract painting class this spring and I loved her approach to creating. Sharing her beautiful evolution of gesture in representing nature, coupled with her ability to notice the nuances of light and passing time ✨
Woven canvas with acrylic wash, shell buttons and yellow thread 🧺 inspired by Gitxsan motifs and colors seen in baskets and dance aprons. Beginning to speak to the aliveness of garments, quilts and blankets. Spending time with the piece to place each button and pull through each thread
Posting these on here too because I’m in love. Proud of these photos. I had a vision as I was falling asleep of the first photo. The sun ended up coming in so beautifully during a small window of time. One of my friends said these photos remind her of home, a sense we feel in the forest, where we can be whatever we want there. I hope they show a connection to place and to land and to the love I have for Claudia🧚Shot on 120 film, developed and printed by me
