On Wednesday, we shared a small preview of CRUDES, a live audiovisual installation, in Kathmandu. Thank you so much to the community here, to the crew who have been filming with me over the past few months, to the Nepali women’s choir we formed to carry this performance with their voices, and to Nepal for the warmest homecoming. I feel blessed to have found my way back. Nepal again, after 15 years

Diwali (Tihar) marks the celebration of good over evil, resilience over fear, justice over darkness. It is the moments with my loved ones, with kind new strangers, with my South Asian and Nepali communities, that remind me of hope beyond the maelstrom that seems to be the greater global sociopolitical landscape. from a beautiful night with @rahulmishra_7 wearing @cliopeppiatt @completedworks I know we all get distracted by the glamour and the new lehengas and we’re all at overcapacity because our little monkey brains haven’t evolved fast enough for this dystopian social media landscape but Diwali is a timeless symbol because you don’t just defeat evil once and get to rest, It’s a forever battle. Social progress is hard fought and hard won. I’ve lived before separated from my family until I was a teenager before being legally permitted to join them. Nepal, of course, has had its recent youth uprising and even deeper centuries worth of ethnopolitical violence. I have to believe that we all have the capacity for empathy and progress and that we all want better for ourselves and each other. I think it is always worth reminding ourselves that a poor man with nothing is not your enemy and there is more than enough food at the table for everyone. In the absence of competent government and authorities, apathy dooms us and we really truly only have each other.
