The Jewellery Box reflects on the gendered codes within visual culture, focusing on the ballerina figure, a form shaped in the twentieth century by postwar ideals of hyper-femininity and the fashion world’s demand for spectacle.  My collages, however, break away from fixed images, drawing on shapes that morph, mimic, and transform. Super excited to finally share my first major solo presentation, transforming Acne Paper Palais Royal into an immersive, large-scale musical jewellery box – complete with a spinning ballerina. At once theatrical and intimate, the installation merges set design and 2D collages, memory and material, in a tactile evocation of feminine ritual and inherited glamour. Rooted in personal mythology, The Jewellery Box traces my diverse heritage, as a child of immigrants and my fascination with oral histories, style and adornment through my south asian families bridal dowries and her catholic aunts baroque jewellery collections. My early fascination for adornment involved cutting jewellery from catalogues and keeping them in a musical jewellery box, to learning to craft and restore ornaments under the tutelage of my uncles Jewellery is not simply decorative – it is emblematic of protection, memory, desire, ceremony and identity. Spinning Sundays! The pièce de résistance—and the only 3D work in the Jewellery Box exhibition—is a life-size recreation of a miniature music-box ballerina, gracefully pirouetting atop a mechanical plinth. Parallel mirrors bounce light from three reflective sources: the mirrored walls, the trompe loeil beetle-shell carapace, and the faceted Austrian crystals. Together, they refract and scatter light in a dazzling display, evoking the glittering sparkle of Paris’s most iconic lady—the Eiffel Tower!
