I was researching some Murano glass from the 20’s (although I think the pieces on the first slide are more current) and I was struck by how much the shapes and forms reminded me of the costumes for Bahaus member, Oskar Schlemmer’s, ‘Triadic Ballet.’

I’ve made up so many stories in my head about the people who owned these chairs and their fate. Obviously, the most logical story is that the chairs belonged to an elderly couple who died within months of one other because they couldn’t bear to be separated. Their soulless children threw out their beloved easy chairs with nary the bat of an eye or the tug of a heartstring. The chairs will soon greet them in heaven where they can once again sit next to each other, holding hands, and watching all their favorite shows until they fade off to sleep.

When they fully map the human genome and discover there’s a “proclivity for collecting” gene, science will prove what I’ve always known in my gut - this is my natural tendency.

I stumbled across this beautiful portrait of Joanna de Silva from Bengal painted by William Wood in 1792. Ms. de Silva was employed as a nursemaid for the family of an officer with the British East India Company. She is exquisite - her soft, quiet beauty wrapped in the finest fabrics and set against a dreamy sky full of fluffy clouds. You can visit her in person - she lives in Gallery 628 at @metmuseum .

Legends never die. The only shoes you really need: cowboy boots, tennis shoes, a handsome loafer, some variation of a moccasin, and a smart ballet flat or low-heeled pump. Fight me.

I was a lot more blonde and a lot less wrinkled but looking back 2016 was a darn good year. Oh, and I took a LOT of selfies.
